Conflict can be good! It can allow growth and enhancement in relationships (Fincham, 2003).
Most successful outcome of conflict is structural improvement; couple learns and grows in their relationship (Peterson, 20002).
Best resulting course of conflict includes engaging in the conversation and problem solving; search for solution (Canary & Lakey, 2013).
4. Cumulative annoyances: small recurring nuisances and partner may become hypersensitive to them (Peterson, 2002).
3. Rebuffs: one partner desires a reaction but expectations are not exceeded after the other partner fails to comply (Peterson, 2002).
2. Illegitimate demands: requests differ from normal expectations that are between a couple and thus seem unfair (Peterson, 2002).
1. Criticism: partners behavior or personality is attributed to dissatisfaction through verbal or nonverbal communication (Peterson, 2002).
4 categories of conflict: 1. criticism 2. illegitimate demands 3. rebuffs 4. cumulative annoyances (Peterson, 2002)
Conflict is certain: 1. moods/likings of couples differ 2. conflict is unavoidable; tensions are imbedded into relationships (Erbert, 2000)
