Duke admits 11% of the general applicants but 23% of legacy applicants—whose parents and grandparents parents were accepted during Jim Crow. Duke didn’t even accept Black students until 1963. Now Black scholarships are banned but racist Jim Crow Legacy thrives. This is America.

@QasimRashid Sad. Black and brown students must use the same legal process to end legacy admissions. Fair is fair. This country was set up so that all men were created equal and afforded equal access to opportunity — but only if they were more “equal” than those with darker skin.
@QasimRashid Can black students sue to end legacy admissions?
@QasimRashid Jim Crow. I do not understand the right's fetish for recreating past periods. You're supposed to move forward, no backward. The past is the past for a reason.
@QasimRashid Duke continues to have need-based financial aid for anyone who needs it. This year's acceptance rate is about 7%. The Black scholarship was ended because of SCOTUS decision. Re financial aid: Average Total Aid Awarded $50,731 yr. Students Receiving Financial Aid 61%
@QasimRashid The Asian students are cheering until they realize they're not white
@QasimRashid Yes. Legacy admissions is the last vestige of legal white supremacy, but you won't see the Supreme Court ever take that one up. Kudos to the institutions who are ending the legacy admissions practice (e.g. Hopkins, Purdue, Cal Tech, Carlton); and MIT & NYU never had them.
@QasimRashid Liar. Blacks can still get scholarships to Duke.
@QasimRashid @clarencehilljr They say we use DEI they use WDWFS 😂😂
@QasimRashid @Will_Bunch Just what I’ve been saying. Legacy (even sounds White and rich) continues to thrive. No push from ‘conservatives’ or that wretched Ed Blum, or SCOTUS ‘creating’ a case out thin air to end ‘legacy’ admissions or … billionaires paying for strangers’ grandnephews’ tuitions?
