For years we've heard from the right about "welfare queens" and other so-called "freeloaders" pulling one over on the government. But actually, it's the wealthy who are the real freeloaders — pulling one over on us all by skirting their taxes. Where is the outrage over that?
@RBReich Why do any of us have to pay taxes when the government just prints money out of thin air?
@RBReich 👍👍the privileged are the worst at cheating on their taxes. Even with all the loopholes that the government provides for them.
@RBReich The maw of your precious government will never be sated. And you always have more things to spend it on. In all your years, with your amazingly expensive education, you'd figure you would just once call for balancing a budget and taking less from families.
@RBReich We used to readily tax the rich (over 70%) and *enforce* actual payment. Then we stopped. Here's why. And here's how to make them pay them again. congressionalresearch.org/Inequality/Sex…
@RBReich Simple fix: Replace the complex income tax system with a consumption tax with carve outs for the poor and elderly and a higher rate for luxury items the rich consume.
@RBReich Tax revenues are not the problem. Government spending is the problem.
@RBReich If there really was 150 billion in tax evasion and they were able to identify who was doing it, they would have caught them already. That's just something they made up to try to get a bigger budget.
As usual…Reich negates to let Americans know that Taxation isn’t the foundation of our existence. He’s never going to make a distinction between what forms of taxation have ethical or unethical relationships to their claim of societal good. In Reich’s social schema…Nationalization in the name of, “Social Good” is an easy step to take with respect to Energy use and allocation, Industry use and allocation, Resource use and allocation, Healthcare use and allocation, Education use and allocation, Business development and its associated activities are fair game and …. in Robert Reich’s little Marxist Mind….. there’s no universe where any form of taxation under the sun equates to the theft of property and Rights of Ownership…because we owe our existence to the Collective. He won’t tell you we’re not born to pay taxes at the point of a gun, in order to satisfy irrationally false demands that our money be stolen and redistributed for a broad range of subjects deemed to be, “Good”. Government propping up failure at the level of us all as Individuals was The Great Society and War on Poverty BS under LBJ. It ended up being a War on Nuclear Families. It spread in just a decade or two to large corporations being recipients of Welfare via Bailout-“too big to fail”. In every incremental step towards normalizing the notion of Government as a middleman for redistribution of other people’s wealth, property or resource to effect a soft landing for every fall we took as individuals and corporate entities, we set aside every compelling behavioral imperative to find solutions or to amend behaviors to a more successful outcome. Whether it be the individual making better decisions as to the path they take in life (including me-I’m no different)…or it’s a large automobile manufacturer ridding itself of a shortsighted CEO/Design & Marketing Team before depending upon enormous taxpayer dollars (yes, they paid it back-not the point)…it takes the driving force of competitiveness and the necessity of survival…in order for the individual and corporation to do for themselves what none of us have ever had the moral or ethical Right to demand from others to prop up. A hand-up is a cool thing. Been there myself and I know what it means to fail and to need help. It’s humbling to be sure. What that form of help means, is accepting a moral obligation to yourself to reciprocate by paying back any amount-small or large- and by validating the trust placed in you by others by way of performance. I.e, making correct decisions in some other direction and following through with being consistent. This should not be coming from government. This isn’t what defines Governments role in our lives and its product hasn’t worked to effect any level of good or success which didn’t also, inherently result in a spinoff-wavefront of unintended negative consequences….requiring more taxation to….. “fix”….for our own good.
@RBReich @_DigitalVandal Cause monetary is so much worse
