@StephenBamBam @StevieJWatson @ruviexo 3% is small in the grand scheme of things. That’s before tax as well. To take it now it’s gonna be taxed and would be less. Why not do both? Invest now, keep paying into the pension. You’ve at least got something to fall back on if/when you hit retirement age

@StephenBamBam @StevieJWatson @ruviexo Depending on the provider. You can transfer part of your balance to your own SIPP. Or if once you leave that job, just transfer it all to the SIPP. Saying that. Many workplace pension provides have a reasonable rate, just need to change to a better value fund and you’re good

@StephenBamBam @StevieJWatson @ruviexo Just check the annual management charge and change the fund if you’re not happy or just move the balance into a SIPP with better management charge rates and choose what you want to invest in. You’d be doing that anyway with a S&S ISA anyway. I don’t get your point?

@StephenBamBam @StevieJWatson @ruviexo Just invest that extra employer contribution in the same investments you’re talking about. Why not take the extra money?

£35k salary. - Don’t invest into pension: If you took the extra each month and invested it yourself you’ll have £140k after 30 years.. - Pay into pension, with a employer match (let’s assume 5% from you, 5% from employer): You end up with £450k after 30 years.

Ignore anyone that says pay into a pension “it’s free money” when you’re “employers are paying into” and shit. Take the money now and invest it. Everyone senior I know, unless to cut down tax bill, does not pay into a pension. Every single - and I work in finance.

Financial illiteracy in our community is why we’ll remain deprived and bottom of the barrel

You invest in the same thing anyways in both options. And you’re just giving up £100 a month of your take home in that scenario.

@AREFlN Lool it’s just an idea. I used to have a garmin but honestly the Apple Watch just works a lot more seamlessly if you’re already in the ecosystem, so much easier.

@AREFlN Apple is a good all rounder. Garmin/Polar/Coros is good too, but only really makes sense if you’re obsessed with running As an addition to the watch, a bicep or chest HR monitor connected to your phone can be a good option for certain sports where you can’t wear a watch (eg BJJ)
