Rachel Notley, Leader of the Alberta NDP Official Opposition, issued the following statement in response to Bill 18: Provincial Priorities Act: “This new legislation is going to wrap municipalities, post-secondary institutions and health authorities in a giant spool of red tape. “Danielle Smith's government has neglected the municipalities that deliver critical services and build needed housing and infrastructure. For her to be playing petulant partisan games is not securing Albertans their share of federal dollars. “Under her watch, Albertans with diabetes have been told they won’t be able to access critical, expensive diabetes medication. Alberta women won’t be able to access contraception. And now, Danielle Smith wants to continue an endless tirade that will result in more red tape for municipalities on the front lines of building critical housing and infrastructure our communities need. “This Bill will make things more expensive for Albertans who need these critical infrastructure investments, and will leave funds on the table in Ottawa instead of getting Albertans what they deserve. “Albertans haven’t seen any benefit in their health care, in our school systems, or in their household budget at the end of the day as a result of Smith’s squabbles with the federal government. This Bill will be no different. Danielle Smith’s record of achieving nothing speaks for itself.”
You have made a very compelling case against Bill 18, you have highlighted its potential negative impacts on municipalities, post-secondary institutions, and health authorities. Your critique of Danielle Smith's government neglecting critical services and infrastructure resonates with many of my fellow Albertans. By emphasizing the consequences for healthcare access and infrastructure development, you have effectively stated that bill 18 will in fact burden Albertans while failing to secure federal funding. This shows that Ms. Smith and her colleagues are choosing to underscore the importance of prioritizing the needs of communities and holding themselves accountable for delivering tangible benefits to every Albertan. This next election can’t come fast enough.
@RachelNotley This cannot be stressed enough. Daniella Smith is just taking AB into dark ages and destroying everything that could be destroyed.
@RachelNotley @LoisRobb1 FYI - I work for a non profit and write grants to all 3 levels of government. Federal funding is vital. If non profits need to get our grants approved it would be chaos. How would that work exactly?? The amount of red tape and delay would be unacceptable. Keep up your great work!
@RachelNotley Which is why I am supporting Naheed. Alberta needs someone working for the collective whole, with grounded, well informed and thoughtful leadership when it comes to relating to Ottawa!
@RachelNotley The more @ABDanielleSmith says, the more I appreciate @nenshi & @RachelNotley ! I am an OG Conservative, and I can hear Peter & Ralph turning in their graves when she talks ! Wake up Alberta ! You are being taken for a ride !
@RachelNotley @JustinTrudeau Sadly it looks to me that the best way to deal with this is to just sit on the money and let Danielle do the paperwork or simply reallocate the funds to jurisdictions that want the help.
@RachelNotley @CountFloyd2020 Alberta voted for her.. because Poilievre, Harper and Alberta Jesus said to do so.
@RachelNotley But yet TBA is NOT in the background continuing to push the government for their ideology that hurts us all. I couldn’t believe when the UCP they were going to pass a bill to control the flow of money.
