Code collaboration doesn’t have to depend on a single hosting platform.
Daniel Norman (@daniel2color) is a developer at @Radicle, an open-source, peer-to-peer collaboration stack built on Git. Repositories are replicated across peers, giving users control over their data and workflows.
He’s joining Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress 3 with experience building the tools that help developers work together on their own terms.

Grassroots time! Cypherpunk Congress is driven by ordinary people & local communities ✊
It's built from the bottom up through collective action. Not imposed by institutions or corporate leadership.
That's the way to secure genuine pro-cypherpunk, encryption and decentralisation ethos. Build new internet imaginaries that will serve people & communities.
Together digital rights, foss, culture, cybersecurity, journalism, and you:

Cypherpunk Congress Workshop alert: @daniel2color x @radicle - Code without gatekeepers.
What if building software didn’t depend on a platform that could lock you out?
Radicle is an open-source, peer-to-peer alternative to centralised code hosting.
Built on Git, it puts developers in control of their code, identity and collaboration - powered by cryptography, local-first infrastructure and decentralised networks.
No platform gatekeepers.
Sovereign code.
Open collaboration.
A freer internet.

My simple thesis on @radicle :
1. AI makes software easier to reconstruct, modify, and maintain, eroding source-code secrecy.
2. Community work shifts to verification, evidence, recorded knowledge, and trust around things that can’t be verified easily.
3. Sharing and distribution remain key because reusing that work is cheaper than rediscovering it.
4. When software can no longer be effectively enclosed, the winning code network lets software and the useful work around it move freely.
The end of software secrecy is almost upon us. The death of closed source, and the final triumph of open source.
I should have realized this a few months ago when I successfully decompiled the game of Firefighter from an ancient DOS shareware binary. My robot friend was able to
our code is also replicated many times on radicle, in case github too blocks access.
code is speech.
free speech is a universal human right.

UPDATE: Bitchat is now mirrored on @radicle — censorship-resistant, peer-to-peer code hosting:

Traffic to the @radicle network has been exploding the last few months. 🚀
Who would have thought that a truly open network for code would turn out to be valuable. 🙌
Huge props to the @ZecHub team 👏
@Zcash's open-source education hub is on @radicle: sovereign, P2P, no central servers, no single point of failure.
Cypherpunks united. 🌱

Decent Code Collaboration Concepts after GitHub

Realising how dependent we are on GitHub.
Are there any good decentralised alternatives in future?
Even the server and deployments are connected to the GitHub and are dependent on it.
GitHub is half-down today. The site has been the center of the software development universe for a long time. However, it is rapidly losing the mandate of heaven because of the perception that it is not reliable. I think the software development community would be best off with a
Want to mirror your @github repositories to @radicle ?👇
A community member built a GitHub App that does it automatically: install it on a repo, and every push is fetched from GitHub and mirrored to a local Radicle node. It also retries missed syncs and reports the Radicle RID back to GitHub as a check.

GitHub went down, so I went looking for a decentralized alternative and found @radicle, a peer-to-peer code forge, and contributed a quick fix to test the flow.
Contributing via a native patch instead of a PR is wild🌱
Thanks for making it happen @cloudhead@lftherios

every other month github goes down and people say we should build a decentralised version of it
we already have it @radicle
could it be a better interface? sure. getting started isnt exactly straightforward
but the tech is here
