Alcohol specific deaths in Scotland was announced today. Sadly the highest figure in 15yrs - but regardless of the figure, there’s a face behind every number… so we remember who they were and think of those left holding the grief.

Welcome to September… and it’s recovery month!! Recovery from addiction is not just for those who use substances - addiction impacts the whole family and EVERYONE needs to recover. Even if they’re not ready yet, you can still start your journey.

Feel free to come along - no need for a referral. If you’ve got wee ones, you can bring them too. I know we probably think they’re the one with the problem but the resentments, the lies, the grief of feeling you’ve lost them - we need help to deal with that.
So true but families are often so focused and desperate to help their loved one, that they don’t see they need help. Addiction changes you - even if it’s not you using. Lead by example, get support. Family support does NOT mean giving up on them it’s self care + boundaries!

Our evening groups run on the first Thursday of the month! Feel free to keep these dates saved somewhere as sometimes it creeps up on us!
Glad of the chance to meet up with other organisations that support people struggling with addiction and their families, to start the groundwork for Edinburgh’s strategy for drug and alcohol use moving forward. Great to see so many people there and such passion in the discussion!

Self care doesn’t always come easy if you’ve been spending a long time putting someone else first. But you need to care for yourself. On a plane you do your oxygen mask first. Why? Because you’re useless to everyone you want to save if you can’t breathe. Self care is essential.
Our first evening group starts this Thursday! It will run on the first Thursday of every month but there’s also an optional WhatsApp group that allows people to support each other in between times! And of course we still run every Wednesday lunchtime too!
Todays chat was about the drama that substance use brings, from the creation of an argument over nothing much to manipulation. It’s not the real them, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok. If this sounds familiar, come along to our next group! You’re not alone!
