Chris James - OF - 1995 Journeyman outfielder bounced around the league for ten years. Finished his career in Boston, where he got 4 hits in 24 ABs. His 59th birthday is today!

Chad Bradford - RP - 2005 Veteran submarine-baller pitched was acquired at the deadline for Jay Payton. Pitched ok for the Sox down the stretch. Happy 47th Birthday!

Darren Lewis - OF - 1998-2001 "D-Lew" exceeded expectations in Boston. Played a major roll on playoff teams of 1998 and 1999. Ran well, fielded well, hit ok, and was a steady presence in the clubhouse. Teammates named him the unsung hero of the 1998 season. Happy 54th birthday!

Jeff Richardson - 1993 Happy 56th birthday to this light-hitting middle infielder. Played three infield positions over 15 games in 1993. Went 5 for 24.

#randomredsox returns! Jeffrey Springs - RP - 2020 Lefty reliever failed to impress in 16 games. Tampa Bay picked him off the scrap heap and he turned things around with a solid first half (though he's on the IL now and likely done for the year).

Marco Hernandez - IF - 2016-2019 Happy 28th Birthday! Utility man was DFA'd last week. Sox originally got him from the Cubs for Felix Doubront in 2014. Hit and fielded adequately over 122 games spread over three seasons, but the Sox just didn't have a spot for him.

Chris Young - OF - 2016-2017 Happy 37th Birthday! Young had his best years in Arizona but was a solid 4th outfielder for the 2016 Sox. Good clubhouse guy and veteran leader to younger guys like Mookie and JBJ. May have also introduced the team to tactics involving Apple Watches.

Josh Osich - LHP - 2020 Promising rookie year out of the pen for the Giants, but hasn't reached the same level since. Allowed 10 earned runs over 15.2 innings for the 2020 Sox, and was traded to the Cubs last week. Good times. Happy 32nd Birthday!

Kevin #Pillar reminds me of Cody Ross in 2012. Both gritty, likeable players who had the misfortune of being on terrible #RedSox teams.

Here's an article about his pointed criticism of Dan Duquette. courant.com/news/connectic… I think I remember Duquette responding that he'd be happy to compare his chemistry grades with Russell's. Right before he shipped him off to Cleveland.

Jeff Russell - RHP - 1993-1994 Happy 59 Birthday! 2x All-Star was a premiere reliever for the Rangers in '88-'89. Pitched well for the Sox in 1993. Struggled the following year, as did the rest of the team. Loudly criticized Duquette, and was shipped to Cleveland shortly after.

David West - LHP - 1998 Happy 56th Birthday! Lefty swingman had a 10-year career, mostly with Minnesota and Philly. Key piece of 1993 Phillies' bullpen. Sox took a flier on him in 1998 and it didn't go well. 2 IP, 7 BB, 7 H, 6 ER.

Inspired by Nate Minchey's birthday. He's 51 today and this was probably the best start he ever threw. Certainly deserved the win. I think this baseball card picture was taken from that game, but it's kind of hard to tell for sure.

Does anyone remember this game? Sox were up 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th at Yankee Stadium. 1 on, 2 out. Mike Stanley flies out, which should end the game, but a fan runs onto the field and the out doesn't count. Hit-hit-walk-hit. Sox lose. baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA1…

Ryan Shealy - 1B - 2010 Happy 41st! Big first baseman (6'5, 240) did ok in part-time roles with Colorado and KC. Sox picked him up to replace an injured Kevin Youkilis. He went 0 for 7, was sent back down, and cut soon after.

Shane Andrews - 3B - 2002 Happy 49th! Big slugger had a couple good years with the Expos in the mid-90's. Missed all of 2001 due to injury and tried to make up comeback with the Sox in 2002. He went just 1 for 13 in a quick look at the end of the season.

Mike Maddux - RHP - 1995-1996 Happy 59th Birthday to the long-time reliever and pitching coach! Greg's older brother bounced around the league for 13 years. Was solid out of the pen for the 1995 Sox. Well-respected coach, especially w/ Texas in 2009 and 2010.
