After my class ended tonight, one of my students shared something that almost made me cry. She and 6 other Black students started a Group Me when they learned that a Black woman was joining the faculty. "Dr. Oates, none of us have EVER had a Black woman professor in undergrad

What's more exciting than watching blood dry? Blood begins to dry approximately 50 seconds after it has been dropped. The blood droplets will dry from the exterior region towards the center. #MicroscopicMonday 🧫🔬

These last couple of days have been difficult for me overall. As a black student in a PWI aiming to be a doctor, I often feel like I must work 10x harder to achieve the same goals as my white peers, especially in my STEM classes. #BLM

As the the world’s future doctors and physicians it is important that you check your privilege and educate yourselves about racism. Too many black lives have been lost to implicit bias of doctors. #blackpatientsmatter

"Black Bulgur" or "Black Jelly Drops" is a saprophytic (wood decay) fungi that grows primarily on oak. When you cut them in half you can see the inside of the mushroom is a beautiful brown/amber color. #FungusFriday 🍄🎥 by Gordon Walker (FascinatedByFungi/IG)
