Jeremy: your intended meaning is understandable: Jesus’ death on the cross was central to God’s saving plan. But saying “God killed Jesus” blurs distinctions Scripture carefully preserves. Acts 2:23 states: “this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” God purposed the cross and gave His Son. Jesus willingly laid down His own life. Lawless men crucified and killed Him. Those actions are connected, but they are not interchangeable. It is biblical to say that God planned the cross. It is biblical to say that Jesus voluntarily gave Himself for us. And it is biblical to say that sinful men, among which are each of us, killed Him. But God did not kill Jesus in the same sense that the Romans killed Him or we ourselves do. The cross was not the Father violently killing an unwilling Son. It was the Father and Son acting in united, sacrificial love to save sinners. That distinction matters because our words teach people what God is like. ❤️ @BrenBooher

The Plains tribes were the tallest people on earth in the 1890s, and one generation of government rations took it all away. Same land. Same sky. The buffalo went, the flour came, and the tallest people on earth became the most diabetic people in their own country.

Korea was one people until 1945. Today the men of the South stand up to three inches taller than the men of the North. Same ancestry, same language, the same height at the start. The border is 160 miles long and 2.5 miles wide. In the North, food comes through the state ration. Rice when there is rice, maize when there is not, and meat on a few holidays a year. In 2012 the army cut its minimum height for a recruit to 4ft 8in, because too few 17 year olds could reach the old one. In the South, meat consumption rose about tenfold in 50 years. Beef, pork, eggs and milk went from luxuries to every day. South Korean women gained 8 inches in height over the 20th century. It is the largest increase recorded for any population on earth. Children who escape from the North are visibly smaller than Southern children of the same age. Fed in the South, the young ones catch up. The older ones are too late. Nobody designed the experiment. But it has 75 million subjects, a genetic control and a hard border, and it has run for 80 years. One side of the wire was fed grain by a government, and the other side ate meat.

In 1976 a Sydney doctor asked in print whether the new cooking oils were causing melanoma. His reasoning was simple. The sun had not changed. What the people were made of had. Hunters lived naked on the African savannah for 2 million years, on the equator, under the same sun all day. Egyptian labourers dragged limestone up the pyramids in a loincloth, in 45 degree heat. Greek athletes trained and competed stark naked at Olympia, in August, from dawn to dusk. Medieval families brought in every harvest of their lives with their faces, necks and arms turned to the July sun for 14 hours a day. Nelson's sailors worked the rigging stripped to the waist in the Caribbean. The palest people on earth, Scots and Irish, were shipped to Australia and cleared the bush by hand, under a sun their skin had never met. The Anzacs dug trenches at Gallipoli with their shirts off. Bondi Beach in 1935 was shoulder to shoulder with fair-skinned Australians, and the only thing anybody rubbed on was coconut oil. Not one of them owned a bottle of sunscreen, and melanoma was a medical curiosity. As late as the 1930s an American's lifetime odds were 1 in 1,500. Today they are nearer 1 in 50. The sun did not get 30 times stronger in 90 years. The fat changed. Sunflower, soybean and corn oil replaced butter and dripping, and linoleic acid began building up in human tissue, including the fat in and under the skin. Linoleic acid oxidises under ultraviolet light. Butter and dripping hold firm. In the lab, the more corn oil the mice were fed, the more skin tumours the same lamp produced. Australia never took up the question. In 1981 it launched a cartoon seagull telling everyone to slop on sunscreen. B. S. Mackie kept measuring. By 1987 the linoleic acid in Sydney's body fat had climbed well past its 1975 level, and the melanoma patients carried significantly more of it than the people without. Sunscreen sales have risen every decade since the seagull. So has melanoma. Office workers now get more of it than farmers and fishermen, who are in the sun all day. The sun has been up there for 4.5 billion years. Seed oil has been in the human diet for just over a century. Only one of them was ever put on trial.

They told you to eat salmon for the omega-3, then they fed the salmon rapeseed. The whole case for oily fish is the long-chain omega-3, the fat your brain and retina are built from, and the one fat in this whole debate both sides agree you need more of. Farmed salmon does not make it. Nothing makes it. The fish gets it from eating smaller fish, which got it from algae. Take the smaller fish out of the feed and the salmon is a pink shape. So the industry took the smaller fish out of the feed. Fish oil is expensive and rapeseed oil is not. Between 2006 and 2015 the feed in Scottish salmon farms swung from fish oil to vegetable oil, and the omega-3 in the fillet on the shelf halved. Same fish, same price, half the point. A portion of farmed salmon now carries half the fat you were sent to buy it for, and a load of linoleic acid the wild fish never had, because a salmon has no rumen and its fat is a printout of the feed bag. The label still says rich in omega-3. Rich against what, it does not say. The pattern holds across the whole shelf. Name a food for one virtue, industrialise it, quietly swap the virtue out for a cheaper oil, keep the name. The salmon did nothing wrong. It ate what it was given. So did you.
