@amyklobuchar Perhaps we could consider letting each state codify abortion laws in the fashion that they deem to be best for their citizens?
@rpm002 @amyklobuchar Any laws done by a state are better than a federal law! We are a Republic! This means we can vote with our feet. People in Texas can move elsewhere for abortions. If federalized, everyplace is the same.
@CaptTimothyP @rpm002 @amyklobuchar Better how? Not everyone can pick up and move to get health care. We fought a war, 1861-1865, because states wanted to be able to pass their own laws to keep some people from having rights. Read the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution.
@RealTaniRocker @rpm002 @amyklobuchar The civil war was primarily about states rights, secondary was slavery. Each state is allowed to have their own laws, especially for voting.
@CaptTimothyP @rpm002 @amyklobuchar False. The number one reason given for war, as given in the cassus belli of the seceding states, was SLAVERY. There’s no such thing as “states rights.” States do not have rights. Governments have powers, not rights. Only people have rights.
@RealTaniRocker @rpm002 @amyklobuchar Read article 10.
@CaptTimothyP @rpm002 @amyklobuchar By all means, though, please enlighten me about where “states rights” is mentioned in the Constitution.
@RealTaniRocker @rpm002 @amyklobuchar Here is an article which explains a bit about it. constitutioncenter.org/interactive-co…
@CaptTimothyP @rpm002 @amyklobuchar You fail again. That’s the 10th Amendment, not Article 10. Nowhere in the amendment is the words “rights” used. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
@RealTaniRocker @rpm002 @amyklobuchar I've not failed, I've erred. The greater point is states are allowed to make their own laws and rules remain. We are a Republic, states can and are allowed to be different. It's ok.
@CaptTimothyP @rpm002 @amyklobuchar States can make their own laws only if those laws are not at odds with federal law or the U.S. Constitution. Read the Supremacy Clause. “…Anything in the laws or constitution of any state to the contrary NOTWITHSTANDING.”
