I made a Christmas tree water meter using a VL6180 time of flight sensor and an esp that sends the data to nodered and displays on my Grafana dashboard.

Got my prototype business card pcb in this week with a $0.30 CH552G chip that actually runs arduino code! It's pretty rough but it works, I'll definitely be using this ic for more simple low cost projects in the future.

Just got my pick and place machine this week and it's already saved me over 50 hours of time instead of placing components by hand. This opens a whole new world of small scale manufacturing for hobby projects that I plan to turn into a full time business soon.

@mueslo @StratifyLabs There might be something currently wrong with eBay's international shipping program. For some reason only a couple items are showing up and we tried using the same settings in the listing and they still don't show up in Germany for some reason. It may be a category issue.

@brobotix0x57 I haven't tried it yet since most of my cut tape is long enough to justify putting it in the feeder. Most of my boards are fairly simple with not many unique components, however I plan to play around with setting up a vibrator to feed chips that come in a tube for some projects.

@bitomaxsp @hackadayio It helps the upward facing camera see the component to correct the orientation.

@m0lmk It just checks the orientation of the component and corrects the position by centering and rotating the component.

@fizzyandlifting Each component it picked up by a vacuum nozzle, the camera checks orientation then moves/rotates the component to correct it, and places it in the designated area on the board. The solder paste on the board holds it down and is soldered in place via a reflow oven afterward.

@MakeAugusta Thanks yeah I saw you're in Augusta, I might hit y'all up if need a few pointers when it comes to fine tuning for smaller components. This is also my first time working with pnp machines so it's a bit of a learning curve for me.

@SignalSkew Yeah I normally do that however I forgot to do it on this board and add edge rails. It was just interesting that they removed the number since there was nowhere to put it lol.

So apparently if you don't want to pay to remove your JLC order number, just fill the whole board with silkscreen.

@MakeAugusta So far it's pretty awesome, it was a bit tricky getting the python scripts working to convert Kicad .pos files and set up the feeders. I kind of wish I got the CHMT48VB to double the feeders but it's a bit out of my budget at the moment. I'll probably be making tweaks to it later
