Critical feedback is hard enough… now try controlling your heart rate while hearing it. Today at @Alphaschool, we watched videos of our parents giving us critical feedback—in front of our peers. The catch? We wore heart monitors, and our heart rate couldn’t rise more than 10% above our resting rate. The challenge wasn’t just hearing the feedback. It was learning to stay calm, listen, and actually take it in.

My own parents have told me plenty over the years: be more open-minded, put in more effort, finish the job. Today, high schoolers hear that same kind of feedback live, wearing a heart-rate monitor. To pass, their heart rate has to settle back within 10% of resting. Emotional regulation is a crucial life skill that most people don't know how to apply.

5 days. No teacher-given resources. One goal: score a 5 on the Unit 1 test. I’m a sophomore at @Alphaschool, and this week I have been challenged to teach myself and master the entire first unit of AP World History. No textbook, app, or course material. I have to find it all on my own. Time to lock in. @HeimlersHistory

I have 5 days to teach myself an entire unit of AP World History. No textbook. No teacher. No resources handed to me. I have to find everything myself. This is "learning to learn," the core life skill at @Alphaschool. The test I have to pass to get the check: score a 5 on a set of Unit 1 FRQs. @HeimlersHistory save me!

I wore a heart rate monitor while my parents told me, on camera, what they actually think I need to work on. My baseline was 88. It jumped to 143 the second the feedback started, and stayed around 127 the whole time. Passing meant staying within 10% of my resting rate. I wasn't close, but now I know what to work on.

Today, @Alphaschool, we got to hear what our parents really thought about us. Instead of sitting and taking a Geometry test, I had to watch a video of my dad giving me critical feedback. Not only that, it was in front of my peers. Throughout the video, they measured my heart rate. To pass this test, it could not go over 10% above my baseline.

One week. One ambitious goal. As a sophomore at Alpha High, I challenged myself to earn an Interior Design Diploma from Oxford Home Study College in just 7 days. After 3 books, lots of studying, and a final exam… I scored a 94% and earned my diploma! Officially a mini interior design expert!

I spent this week learning that people will electrocute a stranger if someone in a lab coat tells them to. That's the Milgram obedience experiment, and it's one of the wildest studies in social psychology. I went in knowing none of this a week ago. Just took Khan Academy's actual MCAT unit test on it and scored 100%.

Have you ever gone on a walk with your teacher? At @Alphaschool, we have guides whose entire job is to be there for us. Every week, we get a limitless meeting time with them, where we can talk about AlphaX, academics, or just life.

One of my favorite parts of the week at @Alphaschool? My Limitless meeting! It's just me and my guide, one-on-one, making sure my academics AND my AlphaX are on track. No distractions, just full attention to make personalized academic plans, motivation models, and AlphaX goals to get me where I want/need to be.

Okay, but WHY did nobody tell me interior design school could be this fun?! I am a sophomore at @Alphaschool, chasing my dream of becoming an interior designer, and I just started my 20-hour course with Oxford Home Study College. No regrets so far!

Just started reading Grit by @angeladuckw. The first 3 chapters alone are already changing how I think. 3 big takeaways: Talent isn't what makes you successful; effort applied twice (to build skill, then to use it) is. Grit = passion + perseverance for long-term goals. It's not working hard for one day; it's showing up again tomorrow, and the day after that. Grit predicts success better than IQ or talent. Duckworth even built a "Grit Scale" that predicted who'd survive West Point training and win spelling bees. Turns out "gifted" was never the whole story.

Today at @Alphaschool, we learned that teamwork isn't about being perfect; it's about what you do after you mess up in front of everyone. And we learned it by playing: - Wheel of Fortune - Family Feud - The Price Is Right Never thought game shows would teach me more about handling pressure than an actual lecture would.

I'm a 15-year-old who just climbed Mount Everest… Just kidding, not for real. I'm a sophomore at @Alphaschool, and for our team-building challenge, we did the Mount Everest Summit Virtual Challenge, the SAME ONE @HarvardHBS students take. The average score for a Harvard student? 57%–63%. My team of 5 high schoolers? 91%.

This is genuinely impressive; 390 skills across 9 stages is way more thorough than most self-assessment tools I've seen, and the structure actually mirrors real art school curricula. Love that the capstone section makes you diagnose why an image is failing instead of just checking boxes. Only feedback: it's a lot to take in at once. A shorter "quick check" version (30-40 core items) that funnels into the full list could help people stick around instead of bouncing at the size of it. Also a progress bar per stage would make it feel more like an interactive test. Solid tool overall, this took real thought to build.

@Oliviatavn Love the vision! But would rather see a real human do it rather than AI! :)

@lunecrumbss Love this rug! But would rather see a post where it's real rather than AI! :)

@picab0da I love your art style. I would focus a little more on the facial details of the characters and make them really look like the people who played the roles. :)
