"Why did cities spend SO much on half-assed highway caps that did a pretty marginal job stitching back together neighborhoods when Rochester had already demonstrated benefits of ripping out highways instead?" is a question our frustrated descendants will be asking for a long time

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 and replaced it with a restored stream, 1000 acre park and improved transit, not only did it transform the city’s public life & economic success, but the traffic got better. The traffic got BETTER.

Proper highway removal has proven incredibly effective in Rochester. Upcoming projects should follow suit by downsizing frontage streets and rebuilding the grid. Replacing a viaduct/trench highway with a 6 lane wide boulevard is not highway removal, it is highway modification!

The Strong @museumofplay is the best part of Rochester. It was world class, and they've made it better. (you're looking at what used to be the Inner Loop)
