The "Go to a Muslim" trend on here is depressing yet unsurprising. I grew up being taught different beliefs should respected and celebrated. I would fight for a Christian, Jew, Sikh or any other religion to be able to practice their religion in peace and safety. If people need a sideroom for short, quiet prayer or contemplation during lunch or free time, then let them have it. It hurts nobody. Extremists thrive on people being discriminated against. They use it to radicalise vulnerable people. We can't let that happen. We can learn so much from each other. Our children can grow up with a greater understanding of the diverse and amazing world we live in. Don't let hate win.
@RespectIsVital Interesting, when Muslims are the minority they decry any lack of religious rights as islamophobia. Yet when they are in the majority, there are no equal rights. Source: Look at most majority islamic nations show me the rights of religious minorities to practice freely
@RespectIsVital I dont know you Alex buy I'm 99.9% sure you would not fight for my right to practice my religion in school. Nor would you be happy if I promoted it, demanded accommodations or bullied someone for not participating
@RespectIsVital It's nothing to do with "asking." It has to do with "demanding." Most religious people ask. Muslims make threats and demands. That's the problem here.
@RespectIsVital What has happened here is that no respect has been shown to the school rules, which if my understanding is correct, came after THREATS and INTIMIDATION were made. What goes around, comes around. Those making threats might do well to remember that, they reap what they sow.
It's disingenuous to call the decision to not allow private spaces for prayer "hate," and it is inaccurate to say it "hurts nobody." These spaces cost money and if the school were to provide them for every student - as they should if they provide them - then the money is not being spent elsewhere. Someone, somewhere misses out.
@RespectIsVital So you've read the story. The event. What was happening. Etc.
@RespectIsVital I'm not religious, I'm agnostic. That aside, peoples beliefs are important to them. I'd never want to take that away from people. People want to cut to a private place to pray? They should have the right to a private place anyway, if they want to pray there, that's their right.
