This month, on May 20th, it will be World Bee Day! 🐝 This day all around the world people will celebrate bees and their role as important pollinators. In cooperation with our universities and FAO we’ll share why bees are so important for your life!
Today is Earth Day. With Earth Day the organization hopes to drive individuals to take action for their environment.
What can you do?
🌼Plant pollinator friendly flowers
🌼Create your own bee hotel
🌼Stop using pesticides
🌼Support local beekeepers
David Kleijn is a co-lead of Work Package 1: "My group is leading the task that assesses the ecological effectiveness of pollinator restoration initiatives and how this is influenced by co-design of measures."
A local media visit to RestPoll in Ukraine! Last September Ukraine organized a RestPoll Launch Meeting and they invited several media representatives. Mariia Fedoriak spoke about the RestPoll project and the importance of preserving wild pollinators.
Hanna Honchar from Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), is busy with field work, literature review and the analysis of interaction effects between restoration measures and environmental conditions at landscape level.
Uliana Leheta, from Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (CYFNU YFCNU) detects the presence of pollinators and studies the distribution conditions of pollinating insects.
Uliana: “I love to engage in detailed scientific research!”
Time to meet our post-doctoral researcher Sarah Larragy at Trinity College Dublin. Sarah is coordinating the case study area in the Kildare region of Ireland as well as organizing other activities such as living lab workshops.
George Vlontzos, Professor at the University of Thessaly, Greece, is responsible for the development of consumer behaviour survey on an EU level. “I assess consumers' awareness about the importance of pollinators and pollination.”
Crop diversification shows promise in increasing crop productivity and enhancing ecosystem services. However, the impact on biodiversity conservation, particularly of pollinators, is unclear. Read more about the results and conclusions: tinyurl.com/bdmb4auj
“Working at a local level on the preservation and restoration of natural habitats, this was a logical step", tells Aurélie. She mainly works on the support and implementation of the Coteaux Gascons Living Lab with researchers and local stakeholders.
Felix Fornoff is a PostDoc researcher, coordinating the case study area network and pollinator monitoring within RestPoll. His motivation to join the project was “to learn about pollinators and pollinator restoration across the EU.”
Pollination enhances crop diversity, which is essential for a nutritious diet. Without pollinators, the availability and variety of many important food sources would diminish, potentially compromising human nutrition.
Imre works for the Centre for Ecological Research (HUN-REN CER) and does field work for RestPoll. Imre: “I have been interested in bees since I was a little child. It's amazing how hard they are working."
Sándor Piross is an ecologist with a strong background in conservation science and pollinator research. He is responsible for coordinating the pollinator monitoring in the Hungarian case study area (CSA).

The Hungarian case study area is situated in the South-Heves county, within the borders of the ‘Hevesi Füves Puszták’ Nature Reserve of Bükk National Park. Do you want to know more about this area? Dive into this case study area with us on our website: restpoll.eu/bukk-national-…
Julia Osterman is part of the project management committee. She coordinated the application of RestPoll together with Alexandra-Maria Klein. “For me the project has a great potential to turn the pollinator decline!”
