@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC While BAYC isn’t on chain that is just the method used for storing it directly in the Contract itself and yes it is more expensive and taxing on the blockchain to store this way, however that’s how it’s done lol! Buildspace.so has tutorials and a much better explanation
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC Fetching the file is done through the tokenURI functions in contracts, usually the tokenURI would route to a link however using base64 encoding it can be stored as a text format directly on the contract and viewed through the tokenURI function like all other NFTs
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC I don’t understand how you don’t get that it can be stored on chain. BAYC isn’t stored on chain however pixel projects can be. My bad it uses Base64 as the code to store inside of the contract!

I will leave this here it’s too hard to explain over tweets
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC Yes it’s on chain.. svgs can be computer rendered through byte code so the image can actually live on chain by designating the byte code that’s why pixel project can be stored on chain, I develop with solidity lol and it can 100% be stored on chain if it can be made as an svg
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC Besides with this project BAYC the amount of contracts and utility that can be made around and linked to the NFT is pretty much endless! The NFT is just a vessel to more potential utility a lot of the time!
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC How do you know it wasn’t generated on chain? The pixel format dyl has on his profile picture is actually most likely stored on chain! That’s the case with most pixel NFT projects for that whole reason! It’s not hashing pixels.. you should look up how svg files work.
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC If he earns 25$ a day from just holding then even if the picture goes down (which is extremely unlikely! Especially if the project has multiple pinning services) that utility stays! And they most likely have the ability to just change the url to a working url as well
@EvanCull @dyl106_eth @Remyzk@cocainekarate@iCrimax@BoredApeYC The NFT that dyl holds could actually be stored on chain since its pixels using an SVG format! However most services use ipfs (ipfs is a decentralized hosting platform) and a hosting site like piñata! While the url for the picture could have problems the utility stays relevant
