Fiction is often the best way to visualize possible futures. Here’s my latest story, which explores what it might look like for AIs to design and build advanced nanotechnology.
I expect some details of the story will turn out to be implausible. But AI designing nanotech will very likely become a big deal. That’s why fiction is a good medium: it can highlight broad possibilities without needing to defend every detail. Link: press.asimov.com/resources/tink…

@RichardMCNgo for simplicity keeping the story to one agent makes sense, but in reality (or a bigger story) i think it will turn out to be that just like humans, AIs can accomplish more working in groups to specialize and to parallelize work.
@RichardMCNgo yeah, that was always the case - science & fiction are symbiotic - both supports each other, both produce for each other.
