“The Midwest in general remains the great value..” Just to be clear, I believe that building has co-op fees north of $2k/month. But yes, over all the Midwest has great building stock and does not have an affordability crisis as persistently bloviated by activists and the housing industry.

@Richard_Florida Buffalo, NY has fantastic century houses with original oak floors and oak woodwork, many for under $400,000. The city is a hidden gem, with a lot of money going into revitalizing the lakefront parks. The Olmsted parkways provide large green spaces in great neighborhoods.
@Richard_Florida Chicago is a great value on housing compared to other large Democrat-run cities, but it fails by most/all other metrics: government education, crime, theft, taxation, corruption, etc. Bad governance and unaffordable housing are both signs of societal failure, even separately.

@Richard_Florida I expect people will gradually start to figure this out. Market forces and increasing remote working options make it inevitable. When you can buy a mansion in South Bend for less than the cost of a condo on the coasts, population shifts are inevitable.
