Our findings suggest that children showing the hyper-inflammatory pathobiology (independent of clinical definition) could be considered for targeted intervention with existing anti-inflammatory therapies.
Finally, we explored the clinical applicability of measuring these endotypes. We showed participants could be clearly differentiated into the hyper-inflammatory and non-inflammatory endotypes based on measurement of only three factors in BAL: neutrophils, IL-4, and pentraxin-3.
