Whether your building has many floors, or just a few small ones, if your elevator breaks down, you need it to be fixed quickly. Fortunately, elevator experts know how important a working elevator is, and can get it up and running quickly.

Did you know that nearly 75 percent of all issues with elevators involve malfunctioning door operators? These components are subject to a tremendous amount of wear and tear in daily operations, as each time the elevator stops the door operators are activated at least two times.

So how exactly do hydraulic elevators work? Basically, hydraulic fluid fills a special chamber, forcing a jackscrew to push the elevator up from below. For the elevator to descend, the fluids are released back into a reservoir so that the jackscrew twists back down again.

Elisha Otis introduced the technology that led to elevators and escalators in the mid 19th Century, and created a company that hit $1 million in sales by 1870. In the next 100 years, the industry would flourish with sales of 90,000 units by 1970.

Geared machines use worm gears in order to control mechanical movement of elevator cars by rolling steel hoist ropes over a drive sheave. That drive sheave is attached to a gearbox driven by a high-speed motor.

How often do inspections need to be performed on elevators? Inspections must be performed after the initial installation, and then once a year afterward. Our notification services can alert your business when inspections are due.

Elevators are like automobiles, you need to have them serviced. There are many different service plans for elevators. You could have your elevator checked quarterly or semi-annually, and have it oiled and greases or full maintenance.

Like many mechanical conveyances, obsolescence can be a problem. If you elevators are older than ten years and have not had any significant repair or maintenance service, it may be time for an evaluation to identify parts that need to be retired and replaced.

Many municipal elevators around the world carry passengers from one level of a multi-tiered city to another. One such ride exists in Oregon City where passengers move between the Williamette River and a basalt cliff. The lift's original design from 1915 was powered by water.
