Mümtazer Türköne, a former political advisor, has been writing articles that express the thinking of the Turkish deep state and the nationalists. He has written several pieces about the current reconciliation initiative that the nationalist current and the deep state are offering to the Kurds, reconciliation with Abdullah Öcalan and the PKK. In an important interview, he said: It is a mistake for the Turkish government to pressure the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and tell them to hand their weapons over to HTS regime in Damascus. Why? Because we don’t want Damascus to be a strong central authority. Syria should not have a powerful centralized government. What matters to us is that the SDF be an ally of Turkey, not an ally of Damascus. This may sound strange, but it is argued from the perspective of “interests.” For 30–40 years, that mindset has instilled the belief that: -Kurds are separatists. -Federalism equals secession. -The PKK is a "terrorist" group that kills children and bombs civilians. He argues that the issue is not merely reconciliation with the Kurds. Yes, we will reconcile with the PKK and with Abdullah Öcalan, turning him into a Kurdish leader in the region. Through this alliance, we will control northeastern Syria, the areas held by the SDF. "If we succeed in this reconciliation, the larger the territory SDF controls, the better it will be for us." So, he tells Erdoğan and its regime: trying to dismantle the SDF or force them to surrender to Damascus does not serve Turkey’s higher interests. The deep state thinks beyond emotions, religion, or brotherhood. It sees things purely in terms of cold interests. He even links this to the aftermath of October 7 (the “Al-Aqsa Flood” attack): Israel is redrawing the map of the region, which will affect Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, and Palestine. Therefore, Turkey must also be part of this project, not let others draw its borders, but instead define its own borders and allies. And in this vision, Kurds and Turks should unite in Syria and the region to confront Israel’s projects. The deep state believes Israel is allying with Arab states to liquidate the Palestinian cause, which reduces Iran’s and Turkey’s roles in the region. So, how can Turkey protect its interests? By securing a share of what’s happening, through reconciliation with the Kurds. To sum up: The Turkish deep state and the nationalist current view Turkey’s interests in purely pragmatic terms: there’s a regional partition underway, and they want Turkey to secure its share.
@RojavaNetwork No thank you, we choose Israel.
@RojavaNetwork All I see from Turkey during the ‘peace process’ is the marginalisation of the Kurds, as in Afrin. It was never a sincere process. At their core, they continue to harbour an anti-Kurdish mentality. The SDF should seek an alliance with Israel.
@RojavaNetwork “Through this alliance, we will CONTROL northeastern Syria, the areas held by the SDF.” There you go! I highlighted the key word for you! What kind of control? Of course, the Afrin style. As for Turkone, I don’t think he represents deep state. He was affiliated with Gulenists
@RojavaNetwork Turkone spent some time in jail. Now he does some favors for his old buddy Bahceli, which is being the good cop here. Bahceli is the real voice of deep state. The other day he was barking at SDF: if you don’t surrender we are coming for you!
@RojavaNetwork Do yourself a favour @FCUK of back to bed with the MOSSAD, CIA and MI6.
@RojavaNetwork The Turks have commited too many genocides. They cannot remain in the cosmos
@RojavaNetwork They are scared Israel will partner with the Kurds and that they will see a strong Kurdistan emerge in Rojava that they have no control over. I.e they lose the entire territory to adversaries. So they propose winning over the Kurds to control a weak Rojava like they do in KR.
@RojavaNetwork No Kurd should ever allign themselves with Turkey our ancestors did that in ww1 and war of independence and whole ottoman history and now we see the result of that century long brotherhood Kurds should turn to Israel and care only about their interests if Israel willing to help
@RojavaNetwork If true he’s basically admitting here that the deep state fears an SDF - Israeli alliance.
@RojavaNetwork Let's not talk about previous Turkish massacres and crimes against Kurds but just recently Turkey chose ISIS over Kurds and they still do and even let ISIS bomb Kurds gathering and dancing inside Turkey. We will never forget it and we will not help Turkey in any way.
