🚨Carlos Baleba on his Manchester United debut against Tottenham: 🗣️ Carlos Baleba: “Honestly, I was sitting on the bench watching the first half, and I felt angry inside. A little disgusted, to be honest, because I could see the team struggling, and all I wanted was to get on that pitch and help my teammates. At half-time, I went straight to the manager and said, ‘Boss, I want to play. Put me in. I can help this team.’ He looked at me and said, ‘Carlos, you can’t come on yet. You’re not fully fit.’ I said, ‘Who told you I’m not fit?’ He replied, ‘The data says you’re not ready to start.’ I looked at him and said, ‘Boss, who is this data? Does the data play football? Can the data see what I’m seeing on that pitch? I know my body, and I know what I can bring to this team. Put me in there. I want to help!’ [laughs] He told me, ‘Okay, Carlos, we’ll see.’ So I went back to my seat, but I kept watching the game, waiting for my opportunity. When the manager called me around the 60th minute and told me to get ready, I was happy. Finally, I could step onto the pitch and show the fans what I’m all about. Of course, I knew I couldn’t change everything in a few minutes. But I wanted to bring energy, win my duels, carry the ball forward and give the team something different in midfield. When you join a club like Manchester United, you understand the expectations. You don’t come here just to make up the numbers. You come here to make an impact. I’m disappointed that we couldn’t get the result we wanted. We came into this game wanting to win, and the fans deserved three points. But I’m also happy they got to see a little of what I can bring to this team. I know I can do more. I need to keep working, get fully fit and build my understanding with my teammates. This is only the beginning for me, and I don’t want people judging my entire Manchester United career on a few minutes of football. Next game, I want to be even better. I want to win more tackles, drive forward with the ball, help us control the midfield and give the fans something to be excited about. The result wasn’t what we wanted, but I didn’t come to Manchester United to watch games from the bench. I came here to make a difference. And when my opportunity comes, whether it’s five minutes or 90, I’m going to give everything I have for this badge.”
