Clarity and a public statement is necessary from @TrussellTrust regarding this fraud if they are to retain public trust @guardian @guardiannews @metpoliceuk! #AmericanRiveriaOrchard website was used for illegal fraud.
Hi, we are not associated with the website domain. We weren’t aware of the website prior to it going live and have not had any direct contact with the person who set it up. As the website clearly states this is a fundraiser in aid of us, it would not meet the Charity Commission's requirements to be categorised as fraudulent. In line with the Commission's guidance, we are unable to reject donations unless they meet specific requirements.
@TrussellTrust @election_every This is a very disingenuous response. The Just Giving page says it has been set up by you in which case you are profiting (albeit for a worthy cause) from a fake website & could imply you’re also accusing #MeghanMarkle of profiteering from her venture with no proof of this.
@TheIceMaidenBrr @TrussellTrust @election_every Plus, it is the @TrussellTrust responsibility to know who their donor (in this case the owner of the forgiveness permission page) is to ensure they are not accepting tainted funds. Trussell saying they had no knowledge or hand in setting up the page is not sufficient cover.
@TheIceMaidenBrr @TrussellTrust @election_every It's terrible that fans of Kate Middleton have caused what looks on paper to be a good charity to be caught in a damaging situation. But what is concerning is it appears Trussel Trust has no qualms or questions for the site owner as to why their name is being used like this.
@TheIceMaidenBrr @TrussellTrust @election_every Is it ethical for charities like Trussell Trust to accept funds raised through non-consentual impersonation? Is this a fundraising template that charities should condone? Do the ends (money for charity) justify the means (fraudulent, non-consentual, spiteful impersonation)?
@Royal__Styles @TrussellTrust @election_every Absolutely this. This spiteful action has tainted the charity & Kate herself by association. I’m sure she wouldn’t want to be dragged into this person’s hate campaign even on the pretext of raising money for charity which shows this hater doesn’t really care about her. 1/2
@Royal__Styles @TrussellTrust @election_every For the Trussell Trust to just say they “have” to accept the donations without condemning the way it was set up implies they agree with the trolling of Meghan & slurs about her making money (& actually, why shouldn’t she?!) How do they know this isn’t just a scam anyway??
@TheIceMaidenBrr @TrussellTrust @election_every Exactly. It is terrible that fans of Kate Middleton, in a moment of spite, acted in a way that taints this charity. Fans of Kate Middleton do not seem to understand the importance of consent. From their comments on MM's kids to utilizing charity as a weapon to bully MM.
