A 36 year old man named Shaun Mckenna who violently raped a 13-year-old girl at a Highlands campsite, has been spared jail due to his life-limiting medical condition. He was diagnosed with the degenerative condition Huntington's Disease in 2022. The 13-year-old child was on holiday with her family in 2020. She was alone when he came in and pinned her down, lay on top of her, and raped her. The girl tried to fight him off, but he told her, "to stop crying and screaming as well as to shut up.” He said if she told anyone, “he would do it worse." McKenna also committed sex crimes against two other children before that. The judge said each offence on its own was a reason to go to jail, but did not feel prison would meet McKenna's specialised needs. He will instead be supervised at his care home in Kinross, where he is not allowed to leave on his own. This is beyond fucked up. Every man who rapes a child deserves to spend his life in prison

I STAND WITH @JoJoFromJerz A single mother in New Jersey says a lawyer for President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump warned, in a message relayed to her by another attorney, that she would lose her home, be bankrupted and end up on the street with her kids. Joanne Carducci, known online as JoJo From Jerz and followed by more than a million people, told the Medias Touch podcast of an ordeal that has lasted months. She says it began with a letter, several pages long, from the Trumps' personal attorney in Florida, "the same attorney that was handling the IRS case and the ABC case," she told host Ken Harbaugh. It demanded that she retract things she had said online, including a claim that Trump incited a de*dly insurrection against the U.S. Capitol. It also called for a full apology, an admission that she had knowingly lied, and a payment that had not yet been named. It set a deadline of a few days and warned of punitive damages. Carducci says a prominent attorney first offered to help her for free, then changed course after speaking with the Florida lawyer. His advice, she says, was to meet every demand because the Trumps have "inexhaustible resources." She says she is paraphrasing her attorney's account of his call with the Florida lawyer, but that his exact words to her were: "They're going to take your house. It's the only asset you have. They're going to bankrupt you and you're going to end up on the street with your kids." She says one million dollars was demanded at one point. Carducci says she once earned $16 an hour as a paraprofessional and rebuilt her life with no credit after a brutal divorce. She says she never considered giving in, and that her children still do not know. Former New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin offered to help with part of her case for free, she says. She decided to go public after hearing Melania Trump on the news congratulating herself for empowering women. "I'm still terrified, but I'm done being quiet about it."

Walmart once promised a truck driver $100,000 if he stuck around for 20 years. He stuck around. He retired with $707,000. Sam Walton offered that same deal to everyone, including a lady named Gayle who started at the Owensboro store around 1981. Back then Walmart automatically dropped up to 4% of your pay into profit sharing. You put in nothing. The company funded all of it, mostly in Walmart stock, and the stock went up for 40 straight years. Cashiers and shelf stockers from that era retired with six and seven figures. As late as 2008 Walmart was still putting $724 million a year into retirement money for 839,000 hourly workers. Then in February 2011, Walmart killed it. The free money became a 401k match, which only pays if a worker making $11 an hour can spare 6% of her own check. Most can't. The savings went to quarterly store bonuses instead. So Gayle worked about 30 years under Sam's deal and 14 under the replacement. Here's the part nobody in the comments will guess. If she was enrolled early, those first three decades of stock may have quietly done more for her retirement than any party ever could. A greeter in a blue vest can be sitting on more money than her store manager. Everyone's mad about the flowers. The thing worth being mad about happened in 2011, and nobody took a photo of that.
