Sometimes trying to control a hazard creates another. Workers stage planks upright in order to prevent dead lifts off the ground, thereby making it less strenuous on the back. However, this upright stack was poorly designed and resulted in injury. #planning #ergonomic #safety

A risk assessment involves defining the risk and factoring the likelihood of occurrence. What are the chances of being a victim to an underground gas explosion? Extremely rare -- you wouldn't invest in controls. What about a general fire? #Burn #treatment #firstaid #supplies

Building a structure is a slow and meticulous process. So should the demolition of it. Inadequate planning and taking the time to safely demolish a heavy and unstable structure results in injury or worse. #Demolition #catastrophic #failure

A 4000 lb battery on the back of a machine running hydraulics and electrical currents should be maintained and inspected frequently. Being seated and buckled up when equipment catches fire can result in severe burns or death. #forklift #maintenance #FireSafety

Some high-risk tasks requires two types of training: 1) Prevention, and 2) Response. This tree feller was experienced enough to recognize a need to evacuate, however, should he be in that situation to begin with? #prevention #training and #Emergencyresponse

A simple hazard assessment prevents many injuries. What are the hazards of cutting down an electrical pole? The pole will fall. How do I prevent it from falling on me? #important #hazard & #control #Questions

The only thing worse than having to do a job twice is having to do more work the second time around. Taking the time to plan each step and the outcomes of them will allow you to foresee and prevent challenges. #Luck #favors #prepared #minds

@UXMapping Grain, but I couldn't tell which grains by looking at it. Could be whole wheat, barley, rye, oats or buckwheat.

Any time you see a cloud of dust -- whether its wood, grain, sugar or flour -- a fire and respiratory hazard is present. Combustion can even occur as a result of static electricity. #FireSafety and #AirQuality #Tips

Any person should be capable of predicting the obvious #hazard here. Even after two close calls, no preventative action is taken. Ignoring #nearmisses will result in #embarrassing #outcomes and #regrets

If you don't think One-Call or Ground Disturbance measures are important, consider this: water mains have enough pressure to lift a Jeep SUV several meters off the ground, so imagine what it would do to your workers nearby? #Underground #utility #HealthAndSafety

Anybody who sits in the cargo area of a van without a seat belt and is accompanied by loose cargo is asking for #Injury . Doing it when that loose cargo is pails of #paint is asking for pain, humiliation, and #Exposure to products known to have caused occupational #diseases

Chainsaw kickback is incredibly dangerous. This person is lucky to have escaped alive and without dismemberment. Chain brakes and operator #Training are key controls to preventing injuries. #powertools #safety

If you're wondering how this is a non-compliance, most safety #legislation requires that passengers of mobile equipment or vehicles should be given a seat belt. Most acts or regs state that workers shall not travel on loads (even towed loads). #healthandsafety #standards #Tips

This outcome requires response and #reaction to #cleaning up hydraulic oil on a client's property, as well as tow a defective truck to a repair shop. The preventative approach would be to regularly inspect and test functions, as well as undergo scheduled #service and #maintenance

A challenge for many businesses is separating their hazards from the general public. While the onus is on the women to pay attention to her surroundings, the onus is also on the service shop to control fall hazards and inform or direct bystanders. #safety #lawsuit #liability

Mechanic's are at risk of being crushed by vehicles on lifts. This guy was lucky to avoid injury or death. Not only is he responsible for the damage (also damage to bay door), but now has to figure out how to overturn it. #safetymatters for #Mechanic and #riskmanagement #costs

(NSFW). #deliverydriver getting crushed by a refrigerator could result in a broken back or fractured skull, both severely impacting his finances and life. Did he take a shortcut and fail to lift the tailgate completely, or was there a defect? He should've #refused #unsafe #work

Steel is a few hundred degrees and spun so that its flicking hot flakes about and this women is 1) wearing long hair in the front, risking entanglement, 2) wearing short sleeves, and 3) not wearing face protection. Why risk scars to her face? #safety #helping #beauty

It's a good thing power tools have pressure-sensitive activation switches that ensure the power is shut off if you take your finger off the trigger. Otherwise this guy could have fallen onto his own chainsaw. #safety #Engineers #savinglives
