It's been a while since my last update. Over the past month, I've spent a lot of time rethinking my career and what I truly want to do with my life. I also went back to Hong Kong to spend time with my family and took a short trip to Taiwan. It was a wonderful break, and I really needed it. I've spent around 9 years studying and working in software engineering. I'm still passionate about IT, and I strongly believe technology has the power to change people's lives. But at the same time, I've realised something about myself. I don't really enjoy being a software engineer anymore. And to be honest, I can't fully explain why. So, what's next? I've decided to explore a completely different path — becoming a chef. I've always enjoyed cooking. I love the process, the creativity, and the feeling of making something that other people can enjoy. Will I still be a chef in 5 years? I have no idea. Nobody really knows what life will look like in 5 years, especially in this AI era. But I think that's okay. Sometimes, you just have to try something different and see where it takes you. That doesn't mean I'm giving up on technology. I still love innovation. I still love building products and sharing them with people. One of my favourite feelings is getting feedback on something I've created, whether it's good or bad. Every piece of feedback gives me a reason to keep improving. So, in my spare time, I'll continue building my own applications, experimenting with ideas, and sharing what I learn along the way. I don't know exactly where this journey will take me, but I'm excited to find out. Stay curious. Keep building. And don't be afraid to change direction.

@builtwithrubel Yes — I’m building a SaaS, so I want to talk to as many people as I can. I’ll reply to people even if there’s only a 0.01% chance they’ll get back to me. I believe that, eventually, I can find 100 potential testers. Let’s do it!

i’ve noticed something with founders: they need a lot of feedback to get better. but most founders don’t get enough of it. investors ignore them. people are too busy to respond. customers don’t always tell them what they really think. sometimes the biggest help you can give a

I’m struggling with one of the most important parts of building a product: Talking to potential customers. So I’m trying something simple. I’ve sent 100+ cold messages to: • Small business owners in different industries • People on Reddit & Facebook • People from Hong Kong (my home city), hoping that common ground might make them more willing to share feedback I’m going to keep doing this for 7 days and see what happens. Here’s the message I’m sending: “Hi [Name], I’m Sam. I’m doing some research to better understand the day-to-day challenges faced by sole traders and small business owners in [industry]. Thinking back over the last month, was there a particular task or situation at work that you found especially frustrating or that took more time than you felt it should? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!” Let’s see how many people reply after 7 days. I’ll share the results.

1.5 years ago, I left my 9–5 job after 14 years in corporate. Since then: ❌ 3 MVPs failed ❌ $0 monthly income ❌ ~$200/month tool costs Still, the learning I gained and the audience I built are priceless. Not there yet. Not going back. Saving this tweet for the future.
