Amanpour says there ‘are no journalists on the ground in Gaza’. Stewart corrects her, saying there are: Palestinians & they’re being killed. She responds ‘yes, but we need independent, western journalists’ She switches gears swiftly but her initial lament gives away the biggest problem in coverage from US newsrooms, who defer to Israeli narratives & ignore the Palestinians documenting their own genocide.

It’s also a condescending racism: Palestinian/Arab journalists aren’t considered sufficient for the telling of their own story vs “western”. Would Amanpour have recognized the plight & slaughter of Palestinian journalists, as she did above, had Stewart not corrected her?
Also, what’s ’independent’ about a CNN correspondent?
It’s depressing how even in apparent sympathy, the perception of the second class nature of Palestinians - of Palestinian/Arab journalists - comes out with such ease.
