@Alex_A_Guerrero It seems that the hidden premise here is "AI will be bad for society long-term." But it is unclear if this premise is true.

@is_OwenLewis Nothing realistic about this. Replace glass with locally-made concrete analogue and put in small windows at best.

@owenjonesjourno "Much of Greek philosophy was born in Asia." Doesn't seem right.

@AnnaLeptikon It's funny that people who were concerned with truth above all (Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, even Kant) never thought in terms of "unkind" truth

@marcosagusstinn The problem for Germany is that China is rapidly taking over those "46% of mid-sized world leaders." And Germany has no obvious answer yet—a predicament that is made worse by unwise energy policy. This seems existential, not "business as usual"

“The neurotic, as long as he must adhere to his illusions about himself, cannot recognize limitations, the search for glory goes into the unlimited. Because the main goal is the attainment of glory, he becomes uninterested in the process of learning, of doing, or of gaining step by step — indeed, tends to scorn it. He does not want to climb a mountain; he wants to be on the peak. Hence he loses the sense of what evolution or growth means, even though he may talk about it. Because, finally, the creation of the idealized self is possible only at the expense of truth about himself, its actualization requires further distortions of truth, imagination being a willing servant to this end. Thereby, to a greater or lesser extent, he loses in the process his interest in truth, and the sense for what is true or not true — a loss that, among others, accounts for his difficulty in distinguishing between genuine feelings, beliefs, strivings, and their artificial equivalents (unconscious pretenses) in himself and in others. The emphasis shifts from being to appearing.” ― Karen Horney, Neurosis and Human Growth: The Struggle Towards Self-Realization, 1950 Horney impressively explains the hollow rot of influencer culture before it even existed. Ambition without character formation or discipline is simply entitlement. The neurotic entitled person does not want to become more truthful, more disciplined, more capable of love, but instead wants the image of success He wants the peak without the climb, the aura without the apprenticeship, the language of growth without the humiliation of actually growing. This is why so much online “self-development” feels strangely hollow: it wears the costumes and borrows the vocabulary of evolution, while quietly despising the slow moral process by which a person becomes mature. The idealized self needs ever more applause and acclaim to sustain itself. Character development needs limits, practice, repentance, frustration, and truth. Influencer culture trains the personality to appear transformed before any growth takes place. Horney’s warning is brutal: when glory alone becomes the goal, truth becomes negotiable.

@AnnaLeptikon In the Groundwork Kant emphasized that every rational being was an end in itself, co-legislator of the moral law, leading to the "kingdom of ends." It seems paradoxical to mention it in reference to people who defend hierarchy, inequality, and view citizens as clients at best.

@AnnaLeptikon 1. More dimensions does not necessarily mean better morality. 2. One can (and should) create one's own multidimensional moral space based on categories that surpass either of the given systems.
