~85% of the cars on American roads are used to transport only one person. That’s a lot of empty seats and wasted space. The vast majority of Uber rides only transport 1-2 people. Because of this, Tesla's Robotaxi likely won't be as big as the Model 3/Y. Tesla's Robotaxi will be an entirely new car based on Tesla's next-generation platform. It will be very efficient and cost up to 50% less to produce vs Model 3/Y. It'll use a groundbreaking manufacturing process that Tesla calls the "Unboxed Process." Parts are assembled simultaneously in dedicated areas and then all put together at the end. This will reduce manufacturing footprints by 44%. could cut production costs by 50%. Regarding safety, a primary aim of Tesla's push for full self-driving and the mainstream adoption of Robotaxi is to save lives, a goal that everyone should support. Tesla owners have now cumulatively driven over 1 billion miles on FSD, and all without a single recorded death, a stark contrast to the 1.33 deaths per 100 million miles traveled when humans are driving, according to NHTSA data. Lastly, all this doesn't mean that Tesla's ~$25k compact car is canceled. That car and the Robotaxi are based on the same platform. It's possible Elon has become even more confident in FSD since version 12 launched that he wants Tesla to start production on the Robotaxi first and maybe do the $25k version with a steering wheel later, which they can likely do pretty easily due to the shared parts. August 8th should be very interesting.
@SawyerMerritt A compact 2-4 seater Robotaxi would totally be popular, have larger group they team up and drive in convoy 🤯
@SawyerMerritt I expect Robo taxi will be built in a way that the steering wheel and pedals can be added to any robo taxi… with steer by wire a hidden mount may be all that’s needed
@SawyerMerritt @TeslaTisments It’s going to be super easy to add driver controls with Brahe and steer by wire basically just a Ethernet drop
@SawyerMerritt I hope I’ll get to ride in one sometime.
@SawyerMerritt People like spacious cars, especially taxis.
@SawyerMerritt Uber and public transportation riders will love it.
@SawyerMerritt Revolutionary is the word when I think about this. 8/8 will change the world 🌎
Robotaxi without a steering wheel and relying 100 percent on FSD is a mistake until FSD gets substantially better than version 12.3.3. It’s the best version yet but it still disengages frequent enough on simple issues here in New England. And I’m driving an all vision 2023 model y.
@SawyerMerritt You should see the giant trucks every morning also taking one person to work... The extra material and fuel is astounding to watch and I am not even in Texas...
