Same gospel? The biblical gospel teaches that there is ONE eternal, unchanging God (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6). Joseph Smith taught that God was once a man who became God and that men can become gods. That's not the gospel Paul preached. Galatians 1:8–9 explicitly condemns a contrary gospel, even if delivered by an angel.
Peter certainly had a prominent role among the apostles, but prominence does not establish papal supremacy. Christ gave Peter the keys in Matthew 16:19, yet He gave binding and loosing authority to the other apostles in Matthew 18:18. Peter was commissioned to strengthen his brethren (Luke 22:32), but he was also called a fellow elder (1 Peter 5:1), not the supreme ruler of the Church. Paul even publicly rebuked him (Galatians 2:11–14). Christ alone is the head of the Church (Colossians 1:18). None of these passages establishes an infallible pope or apostolic succession through the bishops of Rome.
God's elect CANNOT lose their salvation.
John 6:39 - Christ will lose NONE the Father gives Him.
John 10:28 - His sheep will NEVER perish.
Romans 8:30 - ALL whom God justifies He glorifies.
Romans 8:33 - God Himself justifies His elect.
Philippians 1:6 - God WILL complete what He began.
1 Peter 1:5 - Believers are KEPT by God's power.
Ephesians 1:13–14 Sealed by the Holy Spirit.
Jude 24 - God is able to KEEP us from falling.
1 John 2:19 - Those who permanently depart were NEVER truly His.
The elect persevere because GOD preserves them. Salvation is His work from beginning to end!
@5Solas@IndianaBrunner Yes, that's right.
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
- Galatians 4:4–5
Well the apostles certainly preached the Gospel without Mary.
Paul’s 13 letters: Mary is never named; she is indirectly referenced once.
John’s letters: Mary is never mentioned.
Peter’s letters: Mary is never mentioned.
James: Mary is never mentioned.
Jude: Mary is never mentioned.
Your student analogy fails because you're comparing moral unwillingness with spiritual inability. Paul doesn't merely say the fleshly mind does not submit to God. He explicitly says it CANNOT (Romans 8:7). And verse 8 extends that inability to the person: “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
Furthermore, Paul tells believers in verse 9, “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you.” The distinction is not between people who independently decide to change their mindset, but between those who possess the Spirit and those who do not.
Your appeal to the Spirit's drawing doesn't solve the problem. The question is whether that drawing merely offers an opportunity or actually overcomes the sinner's inability. Romans 8 never teaches that fallen sinners can move themselves from flesh to Spirit through an autonomous decision.
You're accusing Calvinists of importing regeneration into the text while importing an enabling grace that supposedly restores the very ability Paul says fallen humanity lacks. Where does Romans 8 teach that the fleshly mind becomes able to submit to God before the Spirit changes it?
This is a false equivalence. “Until” doesn’t always imply a change afterward, but context determines its meaning. Matthew 1:25 describes a normal marital relationship, while Mark 6:3 explicitly identifies Jesus’ brothers and sisters. And where does Jewish law forbid Jesus from entrusting Mary to John? Nowhere. John 19 doesn’t erase Mark 6. You’re defending a tradition, not proving a doctrine.
@ImprecatoryOne Baptism does not forgive sins. Christ’s blood does (Eph. 1:7). Forgiveness is received through faith (Acts 10:43). Cornelius received the Holy Spirit BEFORE baptism (Acts 10:44–48). Baptism is a sign of salvation, not the cause of it. Christ saves, not water.
😬Catholic Bishop Robert Barron says believing in Christ is NOT required for salvation.
"Vatican II clearly teaches that someone outside the explicit Christian faith can be saved...So, if you're following your conscience sincerely, or in your case [referring to a jew], you're following the commandments of the law sincerely, yeah, you can be saved.”
- Bishop Robert Barron
Protestants don't derive the canon's authority from Jerome, nor do we regard him as infallible. We recognize his historical testimony without embracing all his theology. Scripture is the standard by which Jerome is judged, not the other way around.
And ironically, Jerome rejected the deuterocanonical books as part of the Hebrew canon. Do you follow him there?
The rosary is unbiblical. Scripture never commands prayers to Mary or the use of prayer beads. Jesus condemned vain repetition (Matt. 6:7) and taught us to pray to our Father (Matt. 6:9). Its ritualistic practices resemble pagan prayer traditions, not apostolic Christianity. Christ alone is our mediator (1 Tim. 2:5).
