On September 1, 1961, when Hamid Idris Awate and his band of a handful of fighters took to the mountains, it had seemed all hope was lost for Eritrea. Yet, Awate and his comrades possessed the audacity to challenge an empire. What mattered to them was that their cause was right, not that it seemed impossible to win the fight. The invader boasted an endless supply of soldiers and weapons to crush the resistance Awate had ignited. I was born twenty years after Awate. Much had been lost and the struggle seemed like it would never end. My earliest memories from the mid-1980s until Eritrea's liberation in 1991 are filled with images of countless soldiers, menacing tanks, military trucks, MiG fighters, and helicopters streaming northward from Asmara to the mountains. They appeared unstoppable. I still remember how we feared the Ural trucks, - angry roaring monsters on gigantic wheels that scared us from a distance. I remember their drivers never slowed down for people. It was common understanding that nobody would be held responsible if they drove over a toddler or a grandfather that was too slow to move. Throughout my young life, the relentless tide of green-clad soldiers, tanks that never returned, and the constant drone of helicopters and fighter planes never ceased. All that profane amount of metal rumbling through desecrated the land. Though, as little children, we had never known better times, we somehow sensed we were born into an era shrouded by impending doom. We had inherited the unease of the adults. Then, on one miraculous morning in 1991, the struggle ended. The enemy was defeated. The weapons of destruction lost their power, and those who had felt invincible now saw their armaments as a curse. They threw them and walked in shame westwards - a fitting direction in the imagination of our people. Their Urals burned by the roadsides, their tanks upturned belly up. It took us years to believe this was real. It's always soul-crushing when the powerful come charging with their gleaming swords. But there inevitably comes a day when the mighty scatter, their weapons rust, and their memory is swept away, forgotten in an instant. Only the indomitable will of the human spirit endures eternally.

@ephremtewelde @GrmayeBiniam @AmanuelERI1 A revolution that starts & developed by TPLF .. what a shame to call that a revolution. I never ever saw freedom fighters living in diaspora, eating macdonald and driving brand new cars and waiting for someone else to die for them. What a shame you ass hole.

@ZecariasG @GrmayeBiniam By the way this is not the first time they don't want to put so effort, Even in the case of Alexander Isak who plays for newcastle i wached alote of videos from youtubers they never mention that he is from Eritrea instead they assume that he is from Somalia
