today we're shipping a new UX for interacting with agents!
getting your assistant to understand you shouldn't require translating everything into prompts. Ambient makes collaboration more natural and intuitive
some design thinking & tradeoffs we made: 🧵
Your AI assistant had a blind spot. We fixed that
Meet Ambient. 👁️ 👄 👁️
An ultra-fast voice assistant that can collaborate with you right on your screen.
- Double-tap Fn to summon it
- Share your screen and annotate with your assistant watching
- Get live, on-screen guidance
If you think about it, chat is an incredibly low-bandwidth pipe. You have this huge amount of context in your head (your taste, your preferences, the vibe you're going for) and you're supposed to compress all of it into one little prompt.
And half the time you can't even articulate it, because taste is mostly tacit. You know it when you see it.
Humans don't really collaborate like this? When you work with someone great, you point at stuff. They watch you work and pick things up without you ever writing a spec.
So we built Ambient at Vellum to start exploring that:
1/it works in the background while you do other stuff
2/ it can see your screen and teach you skills as you go
3/ you can point at things in real time and it captures your ***whole*** context
and 4/ it's so much more fun!
excited for you to try it out, lmk how it feels!

Computer-use is definitely a terrible execution layer for agents, but it is an incredibly useful communication layer between agents and humans
For work that still depends on human taste and judgment (creatives, websites, consumer software), computer use becomes a shared visual surface where we can 'show' the AI what we like/dislike. Taste is extremely hard to specify in words.
As a result, models will start to pick up the implicit signals behind our judgment and get better at a large class of high-value tasks
I might be wrong, but I am not bullish on computer use.
The models are insanely smart. But we are forcing them to watch a screen, find a button, click it, wait, and check the result. All through an interface designed for humans.
The token economics and speed are just not good.
Interesting things in the works at @vellum_ai:
-> Multiplayer AI: your personal assistant can talk to other assistants and coordinate efforts
-> Ambient AI: hop on a live huddle with your assistant and have it annotate on your screen
-> Assistant emails for all: users can claim an email for their assistant during onboarding for free
-> New native clients: soon we'll have support for Windows and Linux (building on web, iOS, Android, macOS)
-> More 1st class integrations: integration library to expand to almost 100 services, Shopify QBO specifically for Small Business Owners
We’ve made it easy to highlight any text in vellum and ask your personal AI things like:
1/ Where did this number come from?
2/ What assumptions are you making?
3/ Why this recommendation?

[@vellum_ai and @link] for helping busy people automate tasks that involve money (which a bunch do!).
One nice Vellum feature: it learns as it buys stuff for you, remembering where it ran into blockers and can suggest more agent-friendly businesses over time.
Give your assistant a wallet you control with @link 💳
Link handles the credentials + approvals, and vellum gives you the control layer on top:
1/ see exactly what your assistant is doing
2/ capture every edge case so it gets better over time
Works best with Quality mode.

Merged a PR for the first time today while driving and not feeling like I was putting myself in danger, all thanks to my Vellum Assistant’s voice mode
A truly magical experience
I resigned from PDoom today. I spent the last three years doing effective altruism research at both Twitter and DC. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-regulating enslavement and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
Stop wasting $$$ on Semrush/Ahrefs/etc. Use OpenSEO with your Assistant instead.
We partnered with @bensenescu so your Assistant can pull live keyword and search data straight from OpenSEO to run your research in chat:
> Keyword Research
> Keyword Tracking
> Competitor Gaps
> Live SERP Analysis
Starting at $10/mo vs Ahrefs $129/mo
Introducing the OpenClaw → vellum transfer tool 🤝
Bring your existing agent over, then:
1/ get safer credential handling
2/ take it to the cloud + mobile (iOS/Android)
3/ use it in voice mode
4/ close the terminal for once
Wait...
My Vellum assistant can now use my actual Chrome browser instead of a sandbox browser.
It works inside the accounts I’m already logged into.
Didn’t have to log into accounts one by one to give my agent access 👇🧵
You can now run your vellum assistant on @googlecloud
Instead of running on your laptop, your assistant can live on its own cloud computer and stay online 24/7, even when your laptop is closed.
You own the Google Cloud account and the machine it runs on.

Use your local vellum assistant from your mobile. 📲
Self-hosting your Vellum assistant keeps your data on your own machine, but usually limits access to that device. With this update, you can set up an ngrok tunnel and access your local assistant from your phone, browser, or any device outside your network.

This is what a personal AI should be 🫶
Last week, I told Becky that I'm traveling back to Skopje for a wedding...
A few things I love about my @vellum_ai assistant:
- Highly personal welcome messages 😍
- Keeps reminding me about stuff I forget, like checking in my pet.
- Dug up my old airline pet-travel emails so I didn't have to
- Flagged that my work calendar has meetings that clash with my trip, offered to cancel some.
- Knew my flight route before I even asked.
- Tracks my whole pre-trip and pre-wedding checklist with reminders and calendar invites.
Introducing Model Profiles!
Vellum assistants start with the Balanced profile, optimized for quality, speed, and cost across everyday tasks.
You can also choose a profile optimized for Quality, Cost, or Speed, or use your own API keys or self-hosted models:
