Before Obamacare it was possible to buy health insurance that covered a catastrophic event (like cancer) and just pay out of pocket for a checkup. Obamacare means you have to pay more to subsidize all kinds of things that don’t impact you. And of course it has led to further consolidation in the industry. It’s a little like how Dodd Frank supposedly reformed the financial industry but really just locked in the dominant positions of the largest banks - the only ones that could afford the compliance costs. Any kind of big federal regulation that aims to ‘solve’ a problem usually just entrenches the largest players and makes life worse for normal people.

The burrito ramen discourse from conservatives wouldn’t be relevant if it didn’t take fifteen rounds of interview to compete for a job with intolerable arrogance from undeserving employers, and subsequent inability to build wealth. Economy isn’t free and there’s no meritocracy. Maybe deliver the minimum of providing an even playing field for intelligent and ambitious young before lecturing them about saving money on luxuries like Taco Bell. (Also quite absurd for people with sinecures at conservative media who’ve never worked a real job to do the Jack Kemp act yet again.) In this case the intelligent and ambitious young and especially white men 18-25 are the only plausible future of the country that doesn’t end in a slum plus nursing home stagnant outhouse and can be the human basis of an advanced future. The problem is in the end conservatives haven’t delivered the bare minimum of liberal society, meritocracy. Maybe they’re unable to but I see little evidence it’s been their concern. And without the kind of reform that reestablishes some of the freedom and opportunity of eg American economy 1890-1930 all efforts will have been evanescent.

This is messaging the GOP can use and magnify if its goal is to lose very badly.

We have plenty of data with the required numbers. Wherever pit bulls are, they are extremely overrepresented among dogs that bite people, pets, and property. For example, you can get at that by looking at dog-on-dog attack incidents. Pit bulls are overwhelmingly the attackers!
