Adaptive typing trainer. Practise the keys and transitions that slow you down, then check progress with honest benchmarks. Built and run by Dan.sigiltype.com United KingdomJoined April 2026
@koushikx64445 Not doomed, promise. Everyone's speed drops when they switch to home row. It's your old habits moving out 😄 Give it a couple of weeks of short, slow, accurate practice and you'll pass your old speed. Keybr or SigilType are both good for drilling the keys that trip you up.
There's no single best typing site. Keybr for starting out, Monkeytype for clean tests, typing.com for lessons, SigilType (free) for drilling the key pairs that slow you down. Which do you use?
Not sure what to practise today? Now you don't have to decide.
Daily drill is a guided 10-minute routine. Open it, follow along, done. Small and steady beats one big cram session.

@OrphisVoid Day 4 is where most people give up, so you're already ahead 😄 Keep it short and daily, and watch your accuracy more than your WPM. Monkeytype and SigilType are both handy for spotting the keys holding you back. See you on day 40.
@Sailor_VT Typing speed really does open doors for remote work. Accuracy first, and the speed follows. Ten calm minutes a day beats one panicked hour. Keybr or SigilType are both good for drilling the keys that slow you down. You've got this 💪
@Neelam92004 53 is a proper milestone, nice one! 🎉 To push on, slow down a touch and chase clean runs. Keybr is great for drilling the letters you're shakiest on, and SigilType shows which key pairs slow you down. 60 is closer than you think.
Moved to a split or ortholinear keyboard and your speed fell off a cliff?
That's normal. Your letters didn't move, your hands did. Take a baseline on the old board, then judge the new one by the same test, not by day one.
How long did your switch take?
A typo lasts one character. The panic after it can wreck the next ten.
Next time you slip: fix it, breathe, then carry on at the same pace. Don't make the next word pay for the backspace.
What does your error chain look like?
@isthatvark Unlearning 120 WPM is like learning to write with your other hand while your good hand heckles you 😂 If you ever try again, go painfully slow and only fix one finger at a time. And honestly, fast and comfy on qwerty is a pretty good place to be.
Thoreau spent two years in a tiny cabin by Walden Pond, learning to live deliberately. 🌲
Good news: you don't need a cabin. This week's Weekly Quote is from Walden. Type it slowly, get it right, and enjoy the calmest minute of your Monday.
@wahtcherX@stewie50703 75 to 100 is a lovely goal. That jump usually hides in a handful of slow key pairs, not your whole hand. Monkeytype is great for quick runs, and SigilType shows which pairs slow you down so you can drill just those. You've got this.
How WPM actually works:
Every 5 characters, spaces included, count as one word. Count only the correct ones, then divide by the minutes.
300 correct characters in 60 seconds = 60 WPM.
Mistakes don't count. Which is rude, but fair.
@McaupyBugs A whole year of talking to your laptop will do that 😄 Good news, it comes back fast. Ten slow, clean minutes a day for a week, eyes on the screen. Accuracy first, and the speed catches up.
@GFobbit Fresh firmware and a surprise score? That's a good evening 😄 If you want to keep it going, Monkeytype is great for quick runs, and SigilType shows which key pairs slow you down. Careful, it's a slippery slope.
@girividya2016 Congrats on the new laptop! 🎉 Go slow and keep your eyes off the keys. It feels painful for a week, then it clicks. Keybr is great for learning the keys, and SigilType (free) builds practice around the ones you miss. You've got this.
