How can you build a healthy, deep, and vibrant relationship with someone you do not know? You can’t. So, how can you expect to have one with Jesus if you do not spend time each day talking with and getting to know him? This is also known as prayer and reading the Bible.

Reading the Bible is not just a religious act to learn a religious way of life. It is allowing God to speak to us, to share himself with us. Yes, we learn a way of life by reading it. But we gain so much more than mere lessons when we approach it as his part of the conversation.

You may be saying, “Ok, ok, ok, now wait. If prayer is about communication, shouldn’t God be talking back? Shouldn’t he be sharing himself with me?” Yes, communication is a two-way street. So, how does he communicate and share with us? Principally, the Bible.

Am I suggesting that we can’t ask God for things? Not at all. But if that is all you are doing, then you are not seeking a relationship, but rather, you are, and please pardon the crudeness, seeking a sugar daddy. There is no love there.

Prayer is for our sharing ourselves with God. “Sharing ourselves with God?” You ask. “But doesn’t God already know us completely? What on earth could be so important about our sharing something he already knows?” Relationships only grow as we share ourselves with another person.

Morning Musings: If you focus only on the relationship to the exclusion of the others, you get feel-good mushy chaos. If you focus exclusively on learning or doing, you get cold, harsh rules and judgmentalness. They must exist in balance, or you do not have Biblical Christianity.

First, ask God to reveal himself more clearly than ever before. Second, read the Bible with no intent other than finding God. Ask him to help you get acquainted with him while doing so. The more you learn about him, the more everything falls into place. #HealthyFaithChat

The list for the first question is as varied as there are people on the planet. All boil down to anything other than God. The answer to the second question involves an intentional focus each and every day, a deliberate choice to focus on God. It takes effort. #HealthyFaithChat
