ATIKU LAUNCHES ‘ASK AA’ PORTAL TO OPEN DIRECT CHANNEL TO NIGERIANS The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has unveiled Ask AA, an information and citizen-engagement portal that gives Nigerians a direct opportunity to ask him questions about his political agenda, record in public service and plans for the country. The portal goes live at 8:30 p.m. today, 15 October 2026. The free-access platform allows Nigerians to submit questions on issues including the economy, security, technology, job creation and Atiku’s plan to make life more affordable. Atiku will respond personally to questions, while his media team will also help provide answers. Powered by technology, Ask AA is designed to help bridge the information gap between voters and the ADC presidential candidate by making it easier for citizens to engage with him and access information about his positions and proposals. “The objective of this initiative is to bring Atiku Abubakar closer to the electorate through a practical, problem-solving platform,” said Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council. Shaibu added that the initiative reflects Atiku’s commitment to using modern technology to make government more efficient, secure and effective. For communities without internet access, the campaign plans to make the platform accessible through a radio interface. In announcing the initiative on his social media accounts, Atiku said he conceived Ask AA because he believes that “leadership is a two-way conversation.” He said: “For too long, governance has felt distant—locked behind walls of bureaucracy. But our country’s greatest resource isn’t oil or land; it is our people. If we are going to build the Nigeria of our dreams, we must start by tearing down the walls between leaders and the people. “That is why I am launching Ask AA—a direct citizen-engagement platform built for transparency, accountability and dialogue. No filters, no intermediaries. “Whether you want to question my economic record, discuss my policy plans for technology, security and job creation, or share your own recommendations for national progress, nothing is off the table. I want to hear your questions, your policy critiques and your best ideas. “Beyond answering questions here, I will personally call selected citizens who leave their contact details so I can hear directly about their experiences and the issues affecting their daily lives. “A transparent, technology-driven government is not a promise for tomorrow. Something is changing quietly across the North, and it may become one of the most important political stories of 2027. Not through violence. Not through chaos. But through the ballot box. When ordinary citizens begin moving street by street, door to door, using loudspeakers to remind people of the hardship around them and warning voters not to exchange their future for temporary inducements, that is no longer ordinary campaign activity. That is political awakening. For years, politicians have relied on poverty, desperation and election-season gifts to weaken the power of the voter. A bag of rice. A few thousand naira. A promise made in the final hours before voting. But the mood is beginning to look different. People are asking harder questions. What happened to the cost of food? What happened to fuel prices? What happened to security? What happened to purchasing power? What exactly has improved in the life of the ordinary Northerner under Tinubu’s APC? And that is why this kind of grassroots mobilisation matters. A man with a loudspeaker may look insignificant beside the machinery of a ruling party, but democracy has a strange way of turning small voices into large consequences. If enough people refuse to sell their votes, refuse to be intimidated and refuse to forget the last three years, then the North could witness a political revolt conducted peacefully through PVCs. That is the revolution Nigeria should want. No stones. No violence. No destruction. Just citizens looking at their lives, looking at their ballot papers and making a decision. The most dangerous thing for any ruling party is not an angry opposition politician. It is an ordinary voter who has stopped being afraid, stopped being purchasable and started remembering. If this mood spreads from street to street, village to village and polling unit to polling unit, APC may discover that the biggest protest of 2027 will not happen on the roads. The APC Campaign Council: Nigerians Deserve a New Direction I have taken note of the recently constituted APC Presidential Campaign Council, whose composition offers Nigerians a clear picture of the choice before us in the 2027 general election. The council brings together many of the same political actors who have supported, defended or participated in the present administration. Their coming together raises a fundamental question: what exactly are they asking Nigerians to vote for in 2027, a new beginning, or the continuation of the same system that has brought severe hardship to our people? The truth is, I see the 2027 election as a struggle between the oppressed Nigerian masses and those who have benefited from, defended and sustained the system responsible for their hardship. It is concerning to all well-meaning Nigerians whose across the country, their families are struggling with the rising cost of food and basic necessities. Young Nigerians face unemployment and diminishing opportunities. Farmers and businesses are struggling to survive, while millions continue to live with insecurity. Our education, healthcare and other essential public services remain under enormous pressure.   This ruling campaign structure presents another scenario between the oppressors and the oppressed. We must use it come 2027 election to reject continued oppression and demand accountable, people-centred governance. If Osun people can do it, so can all other parts of the country. I particularly appeal to my brother, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, who has accepted to serve as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, to reflect deeply and reconsider accepting this responsibility. As a former governor of Zamfara State and a prominent leader from the North-West, I believe Senator Yari has a clear understanding of the devastating consequences of insecurity, poverty, unemployment, displacement and the destruction of livelihoods in the region and the country at large. I therefore will be surprised if in his good conscience, will lead a campaign whose principal objective is to secure the continuation of a government under which many of the people he once governed, and other innocent Nigerians remain trapped in these challenges? There is also a serious institutional question concerning the inclusion of the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Dr Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, in the campaign’s fundraising and finance structures. The leadership of critical public institutions demands neutrality, integrity and public confidence. It is therefore legitimate to ask whether the responsibilities of senior officials entrusted with managing public revenue and national finances can appropriately coexist with senior partisan campaign roles. The government and the APC should explain how such arrangements are consistent with institutional neutrality and public trust. Ultimately, no campaign council is more powerful than the Nigerian people. - RMK
