PSA did the right thing deactivating the certs on the stolen cards. But that number lives on the slab, not the card. Crack it out, and an unnumbered card carries nothing to match against a stolen list. It goes back into the market looking like every other copy of itself. That's not a PSA problem. It's a record-keeping problem. It’s an industry problem. Today a collectible works like a bearer bond: whoever holds it owns it, and the only history is whatever paperwork happens to tag along. I won’t give an opinion “fair market value” because that’s outside of my knowledge base. However, you nailed it that the certs are where the value is. We built our model on attaching persistent records related to ownership, transfer, and authenticity and digitally connect them to the physical item. If adopted at scale we will eliminate fraud in the collectibles space and make thefts like PSA/FedEx far less likely to occur. SC isn’t a marketplace, we’re the register of deeds for collectibles.

Trust comes from transparency and that’s how we’ve built our system. We’re not a marketplace, we’re designed to be the “register of deeds” for collectibles. Transactions are recorded (with price), ownership changes are tracked, all for public view (identities can be masked for safety). We do this by using persistent ownership records that are digitally attached to the physical item. The rights and the items can not be bifurcated. Every collectible becomes a 1-of-1.

Put simply, the secondary market for collectibles has the revenue of a media business, the fraud risk of high-value physical goods, the valuation rhetoric of an alternative asset class, and the record keeping of a yard sale.
