In 2013, NC embraced Common Core. In 2017, NC mandated CDC’s Whole Child non-academic programing. In 2020, NC doubled down on failure and mandated #SEL and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT). These federal programs we’re supposed to improve academic benchmarks and close the achievement gap. LOOK 👇🏼 This is been a failed experiment. Time to remove federal, non-academic programming from NC and get back to the basics of teaching for academics.#ncpol #nced
@SloanRachmuth Bbbut… that’s extremists!
@SloanRachmuth Should look at scores before and after the Dept of Education was created. I'm sure you will see a similar drop. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING the fed government does has the opposite impact. Why is that?
@SloanRachmuth Also shows the futility of “closing” the “achievement gap”. The gap remains, but will the gap be on the high end or the low end of the chart where everyone is dragged down to the lowest level
@SloanRachmuth I was still teaching when the 2013 Common Core rolled out. We had to drop Algebra, Geometry & Calculus, substituting dumbed down courses called Math 1, 2, & 3. No more AP math. Several math teachers were let go. I didn't teach math but other subjects suffered as well. It was sad.
