...Instead, spiritual leaders need to help transform these fears into urgency and courage." -Diana Butler Bass
"spiritual communities are not needed to comfort people feeling lost in times of change....
Two "must read" books for equipping ministry leaders... "The Equipping Church" by Sue Mallory;"Doing Church as a Team" by Wayne Cordeiro
"Christianity After Religion" by DB Bass. Love this quote: "churches should not be lecture halls. They should be more like a yoga class."
"What leads to participation [in church] is a community of people who know how to do it." -Diana B Bass (Are we teaching HOW or just WHAT?)
We begin each meeting with 15-30 minutes of scripture and prayer. The intentional Spirit focus has transformed the experience.
What is the reason or purpose behind your ministries? Stating how each volunteer task relates to the church's mission is key.
Even in these health conscious times, people still like it when you bring donuts into the office. Have a Donut Monday!
Sometimes people are stubborn because they don't feel valued. How do you demonstrate appreciation in your church setting?
Sharing to-do lists with other leaders helps accountability, communication, and coordination. Many great online tools for doing this.
Following interest surveys with recruitment for ministry work is a great way to avoid disillusionment with your equipping system.
Ministry descriptions do 2 things. Writing them helps clarify your needs. Sharing them helps people say "Yes" to fulfilling those needs.
Ten Reasons Why You Should Be Going to Church wp.me/pSUJT-nQ via @wordpressdotcom
Great for Christian parents!!! ow.ly/b0haB
Make the barriers to ministry low but the expectations of ministry high. Too often we maintain high barriers and low expectations
A project worth supporting to discover the next step for our churches. I just backed PLGRM Magazine on @Kickstarter kck.st/KhI4vy
It's not about winning. It is about developing players. Should be true for Little League Baseball. Should be true for ministry.
Feeling overwhelmed? Email your to-do list to your volunteers. Then ask "Would you like to help me with one of these? I need help."
Volunteers need grace. Great article to forward to your team: ow.ly/1LS50l
When you do ministry tasks by yourself you are placing an expiration date on them.
