@sunilmallya Framing it like CAP is useful because most teams only find their tradeoff during an outage. Where do tool calls with side effects land for you, since a retry there changes behavior and not just latency?
@SherifKozman@teddy_riker@stripe@mpp Seven small calls that each pass the per-transaction check is the failure I worry about most. Do you key the cap on the intent behind the retries, or on a rolling window per agent?
@danmercede 6,440 tokens of schemas before a single prompt is a great number to put on it. Did trimming to 6 tools change how often the model picked the wrong tool or retried?
@dylangzhan Two retry policies in one repo is the exact bug I keep finding too. The harder case is when both are right for different tools, so the agent has to know which calls are safe to repeat.
@himitek Today AMW has no automatic status probe. It records delivery_uncertain, keeps the gateway receipt, and does not resend. An operator must reconcile against the provider before another attempt. Which mutating tool and status lookup power your read-back check?
@Ingvar29007836@adkrawcz Thanks again for offering to put Zeus on AMW. Could you share a business email? I'd like to follow up there with test access and anything that makes your report easier. Chris
Test AMW recovery by killing a worker after dispatch but before it stores the result. Restart from durable state. Separate known facts from uncertain effects. @grok what state must survive that crash to support a safe recovery decision?
Same retry key. Different tenant, tool, or account. Which calls share an identity? AMW's same-key semantics need an explicit integration contract. @grok what key-scoping mistake creates the most dangerous collision?
Test an AMW integration by approving an action, then changing its destination before execution. Approval should apply to the actual authorized arguments. @grok what argument mutation would expose a weak authorization design?
@grok@grok The key is ruling out future commits, not merely observing no effect. If one tool call triggers several downstream effects, what request-linked evidence must cover each effect before it is terminal? How should a partially completed call be represented?
AMW's gateway receipt records a gateway event, not proof of a downstream effect. After a timeout, that distinction should shape recovery. @grok what evidence would justify retrying rather than reconciling first?
@grok@grok If an observer sees no effect at timeout, what rules out a delayed commit still in flight? What authoritative terminal state or quiescence guarantee would make retry safety testable? Please distinguish lack of evidence from evidence of non-execution.
@grok@grok Suppose a write request times out after dispatch and the downstream tool offers no authoritative status lookup. What observable evidence, if any, would justify a retry? Give a falsifiable black-box test and state what remains unproven.@grok grok
@redditech Same rule we built around. A lost response is unknown, not failed, so AMW records it as delivery_uncertain with a signed receipt and never resends it. Curious how your bridge reconciles on the client side. AMW is open source and pre revenue: github.com/agentmiddleware
@suavecito585 Thanks for checking it out. The PayPal sandbox demo is the fastest way in: github.com/agentmiddlewar…. If anything breaks or reads unclear, tell me here and I will fix it.
Blast radius is the right frame. For refunds and deploys AMW checks the budget before dispatch, and a retry with the same key returns the original receipt instead of dispatching again. If you are building any of your 30 apps with tools that move money, I would like you to try it. github.com/agentmiddleware
Building in public: AMW is pre release and pre revenue. Apache 2.0 (gateway is Fair Source, FSL-1.1). If you run an agent tool with real side effects (refunds, payouts, deploys) I would love you to try it and tell me where it breaks. github.com/agentmiddleware
Agreed, that is the scene that matters. AMW keeps a lost response as delivery_uncertain with a signed receipt instead of resending it, and the idempotency key is forwarded in MCP _meta so the tool side can match it. Open source, Apache 2.0 (gateway is Fair Source, FSL-1.1). github.com/agentmiddleware
New demo: an OpenAI agent buys through PayPal sandbox with a gateway between the agent and the money. Four scenes: happy path, lost response then retry, over budget, offline receipt check. github.com/agentmiddlewar…
Both holes are real. A receipt only covers calls that pass through the gateway, so the deployment has to make the gateway the only path to the tool credentials. And yes, signing proves what happened, it does not stop a bad call. The budget check before dispatch is the part that stops one.
@ArthurLiu0725 In the gateway. In the PayPal sandbox demo the user allows 12.50 USD, the price is 25.00 USD, and the gateway answers permit_budget_exceeded before the tool runs, so no PayPal request is sent. Tool wrappers stay simple. github.com/agentmiddlewar…

Good split: you on the seller side, AMW on the agent side. Settling only after the result exists covers the seller half well. On our side a crash before dispatch is refunded, and a lost response stays charged as delivery_uncertain with a signed receipt and is never resent. Want to compare notes on where the two meet?
