Today, the Mississippi Senate passed a bill preventing CRT from entering our school curriculum. The debate was heated at times and passionate on both sides of the issue. The bottom line is all kids are equal and deserve to be treated that way.

@e_b_bobadilla the nativism in Much Apu about Nothing resonates pretty well with today. And even as it attempts a positive message about diversity and immigration, it contains some of the most stereotyped scenes of Apu. Plus, "democracy doesn't work"

I don't think so, either. But the report's use of Calhoun is part of a pattern, the rhetorical use of Calhoun as a heretic, not an exemplar, of American history and identity. It's a move as old as Hofstadter's "Marx of the Master Class".

1. "John C. Calhoun is perhaps the leading forerunner of identity politics … In the context of American history, the original form of identity politics was used to defend slavery.” I am not sure that the White House has wholly thought through the implications of this claim.

*terrorism by Trump supporters. And no, it's not all Trump supporters, but it is decidedly ONLY Trump supporters. They're Confederate flag-waving, MAGA hat-wearing, violently-overtaking-Capitol-police terrorists. It's the most unpatriotic thing I've seen in my lifetime.
