What a disaster @craiggroeschel
(RNS) — An investigation by podcaster Pablo Torre and Mother Jones magazine alleged that Life Surge, which runs Christian leadership and wealth events featuring sports stars and Christian celebrities, pressured attendees into taking on tens of thousands in debt.
I’m sorry, but when a journalist “in the world” has higher integrity & desire to pursue truth than the most prominent evangelical leaders… what is that telling you? Nothing yet? Everything still totes fine? I’m old enough to remember when these things mattered. #WasAnyOfItTrue
Tim Tebow announced he is “pausing” his relationship with Life Surge following our investigation with @MotherJones. More to come.
Yeah. This is what we're talking about. The cult of Christian celebrity is a twisted representation of who Jesus really is.
From @TheAthletic: Tim Tebow said he has paused his relationship with Life Surge one day after an investigation laid out allegations that the Christian group has pressured people to hand over thousands of dollars for financial advice that didn’t pay off. nyti.ms/4jv2CoQ
It's beyond time to end the day of the Christian celebrity.

@JoshDaws @howertonjosh Attracting synchophants is easier than making disciples
@ryanvisconti Ah, a new generation of the good 'ol boys club. Enjoy the podcast and conference circuit while it lasts. Rake in the $$$. You'll change your whole approach as soon as the winds shift in a few years.
@howertonjosh This desperation to be seen as a bold and courageous martyr while living in a mansion and doing a podcast is so gross. Real prophets live among their people. But this is the evangelical megachurch.
@Bill25199330958 @megbasham I asked a clear question and you were unable to provide a response. What is the age of accountability? At what age does one become accountable, according to the scriptures?
@Bill25199330958 @megbasham Lol it's obvious that children are not the same as adults. I think you and @megbasham are just making stuff up.
@Bill25199330958 @megbasham Neither of those are evidence for what you are arguing.
@Bill25199330958 @megbasham What are the scriptures behind this idea?
@megbasham @Bill25199330958 What's the age of accountability?
We agree. Beware of the world of online debates. Jesus is better than this.

Resist this impulse, friends. The world doesn't need your best imitation of your favorite celebrity preacher. The world needs the most compassionate, Spirit-filled, Christ-like version of YOU. Resist resist resist.
If you’re trying to get better as a preacher, you can feed AI manuscripts of preachers you aspire to be like and then give it your manuscript and ask for feedback.
Breathe. You're a human, made in the image of a loving Creator. Log off. Put it down. Go home. Or go outside. Breathe in the fullness of your redemption in Christ. You don't need anyone else's approval. You don't need anyone to be a fan. You don't have to fight to be seen.
So well said. Christianity isn't content.
If you think of Christian ministry as simply a religious technology through which to generate data, of course you'd see no issue with unfettered use of AI to create "content." You don't need a soul to produce widgets.
I have no interest in gatekeeping AI as a tool alongside such conveniences as a dishwasher, GPS, or streaming service platform. But the integration of AI into the realm of spiritual development and the care of souls must be fully resisted. AI production of sermons, worship resources, prayer books, and theological training is off limits. AI as an aid to or replacement for pastoral care is blasphemous. AI can organize around those things, such as set a calendar and keep notes. But the moment it is allowed to be generative is the moment that it will become destructive.
Glad to see this. The problem is that the modern pastor has hardly any context or environment to practice self-examination. What goes on in one's soul in order to justify taking this kind of shortcut? And why can't the pastor see it? We are spiritual beings. Everything matters.
Pastors using AI without disclosing it (and/or plagiarizing) should be a disqualifying offense IMO
Richard Foster wrote this almost 50 years ago: "The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people" How does our Christianity stack up against this? Do the people on our timelines encourage spiritual depth, or do they draw attention to themselves, stoke animosity, gain profit, and gain followers?
