Sometimes I would wonder if Glen Hansard really existed….
Seriously, he was such an angelic presence… not otherworldly…in fact, very present this presence…
A smiling rascal if you needed him to be… this most musical and mischievous archangel of Ballymun… no airs, plenty of graces...
Of course, Glen was the shining star of the Christmas Eve busk… sometimes the only one reminding the rest of us that Christmas began with a refugee born in a manger, which is hardly a step from living on the street.
To be utterly yourself by being more interested in others - a clue for any of us trying out different personas. He really was who you thought he was. He could never walk by a person living rough without checking they were OK… and more than that, he worked very hard so that less people had to live on the streets in the first place.
When the crowds got bigger and for safety’s sake Glen had to agree to move the busk to a stage kindly provided outside The Gaiety Theatre, he would say 'we’ll give it our best but it’s not a busk if we’re not on the street!’ …because that’s who he was - a performer at eye level in any situation. The stage was a separation he wouldn’t recognize. Of all the grand and gigantic venues he and The Frames played, you sensed the street was his most favoured place to perform. And street people, his favourite audience.
Voice of the streets. A choir of angels in one man. The rest of us blessed to stand there beside our very own and very earthed Angel Gabriel… All of us welcome in his choir, whatever shape or form.
….and I’m telling myself this morning that if he never existed, then he can never cease to exist. For me, he will always be everywhere I see a coin spinning into an open guitar case.
May you rest in the peace you gave to so many.

Beat and raise. Thank you JPM analyst;)
The reflexivity of higher EBITDA = higher cash balance = higher balance sheet duration = stock up is powerful here. Its trading under 0.1x EV/Revenue. There was a reason CD&R struck new CEO stock vesting at $50 / 100 / 150 vs. a sub $30 stock price.
Link below in the thread on our prior notes which lay out case for $100+ per share.

JPM downgrade worried that (1) execution risk is high, (2) will take several Q's to prove out, (3) they may not be able to show topline growth and (4) the stock has run a lot.
Hmm...the stock is trading at 0.1x EV/Revenue. More importantly, the new CEO's comp plan
If you are wondering why GlobalStar $GSAT is trading at a 12% discount to the $90 per share cash portion that Amazon $AMZN is offering for the company, it is partly because the deal is a cash or stock deal.
Shareholders can receive either $90 per share in cash or 0.3210 shares of Amazon. Based on today's Amazon price of $248.50, it works to just shy of $80.
There is a proration factor where a maximum of 40% of the consideration will be paid in cash and the rest in Amazon stock.
Beyond this structure, the regulatory approvals this deal will require will also take a while to play out and the initial guidance was that the deal might close at some point in 2027.
The outside date is April 13, 2027, but there can be two extensions to October 13, 2027 and April 13, 2028.
We also covered the company on our podcast several times including in episodes 12, 43 and more recently in episode 61 after rumors of an Amazon deal surfaced.
Here is some of what we wrote about GlobalStar in a March 2025 Insider Weekends article before adding the company to our model portfolio.
We exited the position in January 2026 after it had appreciated nearly 200% and missed out on this last leg of gains from the deal with Amazon.
This Joe Aston piece on Barrenjoey/Magellan is an absolute bloody ripsnorter. Lots of brilliant stuff in here from Joe.
This deal is massively more cooked than even I thought when it first came out...insane the $MFG.AX BoD just waved it through

Four years ago today, a major eel kill occurred on the Lower River Shannon. Hundreds of dead and dying eels were visible along the river downstream of Ardnacrusha hydroelectric station after Storm Barra passed.
The storm created ideal conditions for the eels to migrate. However, ESB was abstracting 95% of the flow in the Lower River Shannon Special Area of Conservation (SAC) at the time, with no mitigation in place to prevent critically endangered eels from entering the turbines.
Critically endangered eels are killed at this scheme every day, but most go unseen as they are either washed away, eaten by predators, or die at sea days later. The fact that so many were visible along the river that day indicated that thousands had been killed.
This was both a wildlife crime and a fish kill. However, it was never properly investigated, and no action was taken against ESB.
I offered to give a statement to Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI), but they never interviewed me. When I witnessed the dead eels and posted the shocking videos and photos, I believed this event would finally lead to change. I was deeply saddened and angered to see the event downplayed by IFI, with no meaningful action taken.
There have been no changes to the operation of the scheme since this major eel kill. No new mitigation has been introduced, and eel numbers continue to decline. Salmon runs have also collapsed, and severe impacts on the Lower River Shannon SAC continue to occur due to the excessive water abstraction. Despite the Habitats Directive, the Water Framework Directive, and the Eel Regulation, ESB continues to manage the Lower River Shannon as it did in the 1930s.
@Avaritia2011 I get that the 42% of shares that didn’t tender are probably just oblivious, but who’s buying at these prices? 900k volume. This should be trading $3.50 max.
@dt432123 I ran the memo through ai and it said I’d be good, but when I asked it some leading questions it changed its mind, so yeah, that wasn’t immediately obvious. Thanks for your input.
@dt432123 I can see the rationale now for how the puts were trading, so I’ll most likely be handing my premiums back plus interest. The only way these are going to print for me is another extension/non bankruptcy scenario.
@dt432123 But there was a 95c bid on the $4 put, which is out of the money. I was selling that and buying the $3 put for 5c as insurance in case the offer fails, and there were hundreds of contracts available on both the past couple days, right up to close.
@dt432123 They will be worthless if the tender is successful. So who’s buying puts and paying a fortune in premiums is what I couldn’t figure. I haven’t seen that in other arbs
A year ago I began wondering: what happens in Syrian media when Mick Wallace and Clare Daly speak in support of viewpoints held by the Assad regime?
I set up an alert for their names when used in Arabic, Russian and Chinese.
