In recent times, the saddening news of startups “total or partial winding down heightened fear in the heart of some business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and investors. The most shocking part of it are the reasons why they had to shut down operations. At some point, I wondered how the investors of those troubled startups made their choices to invest. The least I will expect is the presence and strict adherence to fundamental rules that guides business existence and activities. These rules form part of what is branded as Corporate Governance. I took special interest in these stories because I know how fundamental rules in time past regulated my relationship with partners. That is a discussion for someday. I will not need to freshly pen it but pull up what has already been documented and shared with same actors so that history will not be wrongly rewritten. As humans, we are liable to easily forget and give unrelated fresh perspectives to issues especially when it is not well documented. However how small, or large your organization is, there can always be a corporate governance that will be best fit and can be adopted. Issues like management team quick gratification that can erode investors funds, can easily be regulated with corporate governance. Issues like unaccountability of management team can easily be managed by corporate governance. Business operations, sustainability, partnership, CSR, accountability, financial management, risk control, regulation of arbitrary or excessive use of management team power and control, board relationship, etc. can all be managed with a good corporate governance being in place. As cancerous growth in the body silently kills without it being noticed until after some time, likewise, running your organization without a corporate governance. The death (closure of the organization) that eventually came to full term by shutting down operations has been silently killing but it was probably not noticed or ignored all the while. I will keep it this simple and short for now, but please, make a lawyer with business/corporate experience a friend and start the discussion. You can also find other business executives with corporate governance experience and start a conversation. I Wish you the best.

Hon. Commissioner Once again, your efforts and strides are highly commendable. Here is a piece of advice as more and more people are being displaced of what used to give them daily income, howbeit through means that contravenes environmental laws. Please initiate a memo to Mr Governor @jidesanwoolu for urgent security assessment of the consequences of these people being displaced from the illegal places and activities they’ve been into. This will help to pull together a security team that can holistically look at the immediate and future risk they can pose to the state as they become jobless. The bedrock of sustainability is in a holistic view of consequences, either intended or unintended. It does not mean that some were not involved in nefarious activities while they engaged their cart pushing and other street activities, but the tendencies of them fully being lured into criminality can increase while searching for survival. Our correctional facilities are already overstretched, so having the mind of arresting and locking them up if they commit crimes may not be the best of our disposition. The sometime ago unplanned for ‘displaced bike riders’ used their anger against the state to team up with those who sought to end only God knows what else even after SARS was ended. The security team should be able to fashion out plans for them which may include some of the following and many others… 1. Develop a register for them so they can be tracked while they still reside within the state before some of them relocate. 2. Engage their cluster traditional/tribal/trade leaders for proper orientation of lucrative options rather than being lured into crime. 3. Consider engaging those that will be willing to participate in the farming scheme the government is working on. Farm workers are difficult to get these days. @akinwale_cfi and co will have a pool to engage for those government Agric schemes. 4. As there will be more demand to increase the services of waste collection companies, some of these displaced guys can become ready ad-hoc workers. E.T.C. Your ultimate goal is that the success of your current cleaner Lagos efforts is sustained beyond continuous clamping down. One interesting twist this type of innovative project can do to Lagos state is that it has the potential to provide economic empowerment and completely eradicate indiscriminate waste disposal. The scheme will activate "earn as you collect and package waste for the collectors." This will encourage especially the class of people who are mostly fond of throwing waste in the drainages. They will rather scramble to aggregate waste to earn than throw them in the drainages. Once this is achieved, indiscriminate waste disposal will stop. This will also guarantee sufficient supply of waste for the plant to convert to electricity. Summarily... 1. Sustainable cleaner Lagos will be achieved. 2. Economic empowerment through additional earning to participating residents will be activated. 3. Tourism will be introduced, and the state IGR will improve. 4. Less or no financial commitment from the state government because it's going to be PPP. The state government's major contribution will be in terms of policy, site provision, legislation, etc. 5. More efficient waste collection systems will be activated. 6. Open waste dump site will be a thing of the past. 7. Additional electricity will be generated. 8. Opportunity to access or guarantee the global "Green Climate Fund" for the PPP participants. These and many more are possible. Which of these 3 surrounds you? 1. A team member that sees things that can be improved upon for the good of all, not minding being offended in the process, despite that it’s not your direct brief in the first instance. 2.You not only walk past redeemable issues, but you also step on the toes of those who want to improve things irrespective of the fact that it’s not their brief but just offering a helping hand. 3.I notice another team member’s effort in remedying a situation and decide to aid and make it done faster. Every organization, home, society, and country have these 3 people, and they reflect the culture and also determine the possibility of growth and successes. A system and process might have been instituted in an organization. The entrenchment and success depend on the attitudes and disposition of the actors as seen in this video.

Don’t Struggle for Platforms… The Platform will come to You. Back in 2008, while preparing for another edition of @theplatformng, @pastorpoju announced during a Yaba service that we could suggest speakers for the upcoming edition. It struck me that @olakunlesoriyan (PK), my former boss and a person of profound knowledge, would be an excellent fit as a speaker. So, on Monday at the office, I discussed this idea with three colleagues who also attended Covenant Christian Centre, now known as The Covenant Nation (TCN). We all agreed to nominate PK for the opportunity. Unfortunately, I had an unexpected assignment that took me out of Lagos, so I couldn't attend the service, and I can't recall why my colleagues also failed to nominate PK that Sunday. A few months later, during an office performance review, PK learned that a colleague had visited @pastorpoju’s office to pitch our company's Personal Development product to him. He was very displeased. He believed he should have been the one to meet Pastor Poju personally, considering his relationship with Pastor Taiwo Odukoya of blessed memory who was the Senior Pastor of PK's church at the time. He also explained that meeting him on ministry grounds was much better than introducing a personal development product to him. During that meeting, I wondered how PK would react if he knew about our plans to suggest him as a speaker for The Platform, considering his stand of not struggling for recognition or to grace platforms. Well, I eventually buried the nomination idea, and it never crossed my mind again. Years later, PK became a speaker at @theplatformng, sharing the stage with other renowned national and international speakers. This experience resonated with a similar one Pastor Poju shared last week on this app. Key Takeaways: 1. Excel in your work, and recognition will come your way eventually. 2. Don't strive too hard for platforms; let opportunities come to you. God exalts and humbles people. 3. Understand and follow ethical protocols in both ministry and your professional life. 4.
