I've noticed that most of my friends in Hong Kong are very "patriotic," with a strong sense of solidarity with the city. They are highly politically engaged, and nearly everyone maintains their own political stance while genuinely caring about Hong Kong society.

Friends' birthdays? I go all out, pouring my heart into unique gifts when I know. Yet on my own special day, just mom's midnight cash transfer and bae's playful escapade to Kasukabe, acting like kids, ending with the Dyson hairdryer I casually mentioned. My phone? Silence.
