Also looks like multi-draw elements indirect isn't a win any more in Substrata, due to the chunking optimisations I made a while ago. Basically fewer draws needed means the overhead of MDI becomes too large.

Reworked animated GIF support. Texture frames are uploaded to the GPU off the main thread. This is super smooth at 144 fps with no dropped frames and consistent < 2ms CPU time (see the green bar graph on the upper left). Build is a secret showroom by @0xDeadstock

Making great progress reducing stuttering - moved texture and geometry uploads to another thread. Note the graph in the top left: after the intense initial load, CPU time per frame stays at around 1 ms - all while loading many hi-def textures and hi-res models.
