Police in schools do NOT make students safer. Their presence increases anxiety and leads to more arrests. “They’re not there to protect us. They’re there to intimidate us.” –Dexter Leggin, COFI/POWER-PAC IL leader #PoliceFreeSchools #CPDOutOfCPS chicago.cbslocal.com/2020/06/16/act…
I wrote this book to show a Black boy having an adventure that does not include violence/terror. The death of George Floyd reminds us all of the importance of creating conditions in which our children can grow up to feel safe, play, be themselves and see their worth.
