#HongKongers: Today our 12 brothers & sisters who tried to flee #HongKong & are now in jail in #China are much in my thoughts & prayers - as they have been every day since their ordeal began
So I wrote these characters, inspired by

I say: Please #save12hkyouths
Democracy, respect for fundamental freedoms, and government accountability to the people are the best paths to stability in Hong Kong - not draconian efforts to limit free expression, delay elections, and restrict travel.
Takes a particular sort of scum to brutalise a pregnant woman.
Since July last 2019, the @hkpoliceforce have shown again and again that pregnancy is no defence against their disproportionate brutalising of democracy campaigners.
Really hope she is ok.
The arrest of @JimmyLaiApple in Hong Kong is deeply offensive & an affront to freedom loving people around the world. When I met w/ Jimmy Lai @WhiteHouse, I was inspired by his stand for democracy & the rights & autonomy that were promised to the people of Hong Kong by Beijing.
I’m deeply troubled by reports of the arrest of @JimmyLaiApple under Hong Kong’s draconian National Security Law. Further proof that the CCP has eviscerated Hong Kong’s freedoms and eroded the rights of its people.
My heartfelt thanks to the delegation from Japan led by former Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori to pay their respects to former President Lee. We will strive to honour President Lee’s legacy by continuing to deepen the treasured friendship between our nations. bit.ly/2DsxkxD
Had a productive meeting with @SecAzar & the @HHSGov delegation. Thank you to @POTUS and @SecPompeo for supporting the #TaiwanModel & our international participation. Working together, we can prove that democracy is the best system to overcome global challenges.
Disappointed to see Jimmy Lai & other pro-democracy activists arrested, further eroding #HongKong’s freedom of the press, the rule of law, human rights, & democracy. #Taiwan along with democracies around the world will stand with #HKers who fight hard for values we all cherish.
Welcome to #Taiwan#US HHS @SecAzar & the @HHSGov delegation! We look forward to sharing our expertise, exchanging ideas about containing #COVID19, & strengthening our global leadership in promoting public health.
Wheels down in Taipei. Our @HHSGov delegation disembarked wearing masks and tested negative for COVID-19.
Honored to be here to convey our support for #Taiwan and their global health leadership.
Foloing 5 online media barred from police stand-up on arresting @studentlocalism ex-members, @StandNewsHK and InMediaHK were refused in @appledaily_hk HQs yard this morning for reporting - via InMediaHK.
The Chinese Communist Party and their puppets in Hong Kong continue to silence and intimidate those speaking up for democracy and human rights.
The new security law in #HongKong is nothing more than a direct assault on freedom and autonomy. foxbusiness.com/media/hong-kon…
There are now 7.5 million political prisoners in Hong Kong. Many can leave for now, including 300,000 Canadians living in the territory. But freedom from arbitrary detention an illusion after Beijing’s Stasi arrest media proprietor Jimmy Lai, champion of democracy & free speech.
In Opinion
The Hong Kong police on Monday arrested the publisher Jimmy Lai. In May, Lai wrote, "I have feared that one day the Chinese Communist Party would grow tired not only of Hong Kong’s free press but also of its free people. That day has come."

My deepest respect to Apple Daily reporters who are continuing to stand firm, to do their jobs and to live-stream the monumental developments in their newsroom today despite the risks. A continuation of their true public service at the forefront of the protests last year. Humbled
Police set up a cordon line inside the office building of Apple Daily when they conduct a search in the newsroom. Apple Daily reporters have to stand behind the cordon line at their own office. There is a lil poster printed with “who’s afraid of the truth!”
I just finished 2nd meeting with Human Rights lawyer, we will get justice for the ppl of #hongkong these two will suffer the consequences. Please keep sending all your evidence, thank you to everyone that has sent so far #StandWithHongKong#stand4hongkong#supporthongkong
Shocked to learn that this man, reportedly Stephen Ng, seen here perpetrating the vicious 7/21 Yuen Long attacks in #HongKong has fled and taken refuge in Cambridge.
The U.K. should not be a haven for people like this. We will be raising this with the local authorities.
