@Free_Talker0 @austin__mich @Senpai_o1 It's a lot better to be a homosexual than to be a scammer.

1/ Meet Kemi, He’s a Nigerian scammer who impersonates YouTubers like @MrBeast, @airrack, and even me. He tried to scam me......but instead of paying him money, I hacked into his laptop and turned on his live webcam feed.

Defender kept saying the machine was clean. But something about the laptop still did not look right. There was a process making outbound connections in the background, and the user could not explain where it came from. So I checked Microsoft Defender’s exclusions. That was where I found: C:\ProgramData\MediaCache That folder had been excluded from Defender scanning. Now that was a serious red flag. I checked the Defender Operational log and found Event ID 5007 showing that the exclusion had been added the previous evening around 7:42 PM. Then I checked the folder itself. Less than a minute after the exclusion was created, a file called: MediaSync.exe appeared inside it. The name looked normal enough, but the file was not digitally signed. I checked the process list and confirmed the same executable was currently running in the background. Then I checked its network activity. It had an active HTTPS connection to an external IP address. At that point, the timeline was becoming very clear. First, the Defender exclusion was created. Then the executable was dropped into that exact folder. Then the process started running from a location Defender had been told not to scan. So when somebody checked the machine and Defender said everything was fine, that did not necessarily mean the machine was fine. Part of the machine had basically been removed from Defender’s normal visibility. We isolated the laptop, collected the executable and Defender logs, preserved the exclusion configuration and started checking how that setting was added in the first place. One thing this incident reminded me of is that security tools are only as useful as their configuration. If malware can get its own folder excluded, you can scan the machine ten times and still feel confident for the wrong reason. So when Defender says a suspicious machine is clean, I also like checking: Get-MpPreference Especially the exclusion paths. Sometimes the most important finding is not what Defender detected. It is what Defender was told not to look at.

🚨 CYBERSECURITY STUDENTS - SAVE THIS POST @Microsoft has several free Microsoft Applied Skills assessments where you can learn the topic, complete a hands-on lab, and validate practical skills using real Microsoft security tools. Unlike a normal multiple-choice exam, many of these assessments use an interactive lab environment. Some take around 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the skill. Once you pass, you earn a Microsoft Applied Skills credentia that you can add to your Linkedin profile, X or CV. Here are some strong options for cybersecurity students 1. Get started with identities and access using Microsoft Entra Learn user management, groups, MFA, password protection, SSPR, and Conditional Access. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credenti… 2. Defend against cyberthreats with Microsoft Defender XDR Practice incident management, endpoint investigation, Defender for Endpoint, and threat hunting with KQL. • learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credenti… 3. Implement information protection and data loss prevention with Microsoft Purview Learn how to classify sensitive data, configure sensitivity labels, and implement DLP policies. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credenti… 4. Secure Azure services and workloads with Microsoft Defender for Cloud Build practical skills around cloud security and regulatory compliance controls. • learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credenti… 5. Secure Al solutions in the cloud A very interesting option if you want to combine Al + cybersecurity. It covers Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Foundry security, guardrails, and securing Al workloads. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credenti… Save this post, retweet and engage so others can benefit.
